Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

Mine seem to prefer the wood line when they go out...I think it affords them some cover and protection, which makes them feel safer, but being CX they will go wherever the food is. Mostly they seem to find more bugs and worms under the leaf litter.

Back where I have the coop I have an area of trees. 60 x 200' It has a 15' clearing down the middle to drive thru. ( but no one does). I don't own this land but they have assured me I can run my chickens. It isn't fenced yet. After by babies get a little bigger would it be safe for them to go out 1 hr before sunset if I'm with them. Or will they run off. I'll train them with the treat bucket.

Quote: I had a chick like that that I should have culled. Maybe you can straighten it and wrap it to keep it straight so it won't go back, for a couple of weeks. check it out and make it flex in the correct position. If it works right you are good to go, otherwise cull it. I made the mistake of letting a vet splint mine and leaving it on til her leg was frozen. lol : )

My meaties have been on ff since day two and they are five weeks old now. If I splint the leg what do I use for hardware? I have the coban (with little smiley faces). Now for the sticks. I think that match sticks are much too small. I would estimate these guys around a pound. Where on the leg do I splint? If I span the knee joint he wouldn't be able to lay down.
He'll lay down with his leg out behind him and won't be able to get around. You'll have to separate him (her?). Don't get fond of it. Popsicle sicks would do. heavy cardboard, the thing is to get those ligaments back in the right position before they can't be fixed. Can you fotograph it?

Quote: I have tried to loft this guy gently. He comes back to defend his honor.

I am working on staring him down now and making him be the one to walk away. it seem to be working unless I get him cornered while working in the yard.
It takes me longer to do my chores sometimes but he is walking away in shorter time periods than when I started.

I personally won't use Roundup around my Chickens or anywhere near my land, due to the neurological damage I myself have from repeated exposure when young!

If it would do it to me I can't imagine what it would do to my chickens! Nada on chemicals of any kind I can avoid.

In most cities, if you use roundup or related lawn treatments you are required by law to put a sign up to notify people to keep children off the lawn or they could get very sick... Just sayin.
