Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

QUESTION: Is there any disadvantage to using rolled oats over whole oats in FF? My birds don't like/won't eat whole oats for some reason...just leave it lay.

Thanks in advance.

None that I can think of. You spoil your chickens

I practice tough love, leave the grain long enough w/o adding any more and they will eat it!

Is there a list of what you can and cant ferment for chickens and ducks? So far I have used spaghetti noodles Egg Shells sweet peppers banana peels and potato peelings and left over pancakes which is something all that I would give to the without fermenting. But I read somewhere chickens like meat and was wondering if that was okay?

Whole oats are harder to digest. The rolled oats are steamed before rolling to soften them a bit. For reading that I have done, even for cattle and horses, it is recommended to feed cracked so they can digest it easier.

Give them a turkey carcass and take a step back. Mine clean one in half an hour. Liver, ground beef, chicken wing bones.......I haven't found a meat they don't like. Very amusing to watch them play keep, away when they grab a piece of meat. I do not ferment meat, veggies or leftovers. Just the grains I feed them.

I had wondered the same thing... I use steamed/crimped oats and 1/2 the flock (2 groups) eat them, the other 1/2 don't. So I started leaving them out of the FF bucket for the group that doesn't like them

When this bag is gone (maybe 2016 at this rate) I may switch over to rolled oats and see how those do. Thanks!

I sprout my grains too. (during summer for the buns, during winter for buns and chickens) so mine just have to suck it up and eat the whole seed grain oats. If I didn't sprout too, I would probably get them the rolled or crimped oats too.
