Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

Ms Lydia,
My holes got plugged too. I drilled a few more holes a bit larger. I have also tried pellets. It turns out the same after a while. I have game bird in it now for the winter.

Thanks d, I think thats what I'll do is drill some bigger holes. When I mentioned it to my dh his response was then your feed is going to end up in the bottom of the bucket.

Sorry for the questions. I just wanna make sure I get the right stuff. Cant afford to get the wrong and mess up even a small batch of feed with prices these days. :/

Don't be sorry for asking questions. We all started where you are. I tried to make the fermented feed with the pasteurized acv. Didn't work as well, though it would have if I had been more patient. You can start a ferment with just water and the feed, but the up acv helps to kick start the ferment. I do mine in one bucket since I don't have many chickens and the first day or so, it is mostly wet feed. They all eat it either way. Once I get my flock in full swing, I will probably switch to a two bucket system, but this is working for me right now.

That is all I will probably do is a one bucket to start with. I am getting 25 meaties and thats all the chickens I will have until late. I hope to get redcaps, pekin ducks, coturnix quail, and maybe a few turkeys. :D
With the 25, you can certainly st up a two bucket system with the fermented water in the bottom and the bucket with the holes in the top. I just use one bucket and keep mine pretty thick so that I don't strain at all, or very little. My crooks are now used to a little extra liquid in their feed. ;)

When I first offered the ff to my flock only my chickens would eat it and I was still offering dry feed also, so my ducks and geese would eat the dry, but I gradually put out more ff than dry till 2 weeks ago I only offered the ff to everyone, now my ducks and geese love it too, I think the reason it was harder for my ducks and geese was because it was something new, they don't do change well.
