Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

Kassaundra that's how it is at my house. Stella jumps the fence every day near feeding time so she can "help" me get the ff that's in their old run. I can't wait to start my guys on whole grains soon. Just waiting on peas and fish meal to come in

Chum is right!!! That's exactly how they act..like sharks smelling blood in the water. I've never seen a bird act that way over dry feed in my life but this FF is something else altogether. Do you think they become addicted and are just displaying a "Jones" for the stuff?

"Reunited and it feeels sooo gooood...!" LOL I brought the pullet in and put her back with the chicks. If I just had some diapers...sigh. LOL

My boyfriend says that I have made alcoholics out of my chickens! LOL Mine are just plain rude at feeding time. A couple of them jump and take bites from the dang bucket as I am TRYING to walk! I tried making them act like they have manners but it makes the roo so mad when I upset the pullets and it doesn't do any good anyhow. I think it would take a cattle prod to get them back when they smell that ff! lol

Definitely keep them together wherever they are.  They will do fine in the garage unless there are rats in there!  :D   If you put out the JOB, the rats will be gone in a couple of days, so they won't have to be in the garage long.

Well there are mice in the garage! That wasn't a problem until we closed it in and the snakes can't get in to eat them. LOL Better not be a rat hiding in there or a snake! Naa, if there was they would have munched down on the youngsters when they were in there. Somehow a couple of dang big slugs got in there. Found one chowing down in the ff bucket! I had NEVER seen a slug until about 10 years ago then I think they ALL moved here! YUCK - SNOT BUGS!!!

   Me too!!  Beats trying to rig up a tent using an old blanket and some sticks.  How cool would it have been to have one's own  hoop coop play house?

I use to get all the chairs, sheets, clothes pins and safety pins I could find and make a huge fort in the living room. I'd strap on my six shooters, grab my rifle, run through the house and dive over my wall as I was shooting bad guys!!! LOL Then my mom had to walk up one day as I was slaying bad guys and say "Do you really like shooting people?" I tried to tell her they were bad guys! Well crud!!! Made me feel bad and I just didn't have as much fun shooting bad guys anymore. A kid just couldn't have any fun. :( lol

If I had of had a hoop coop, ohhh my goodness! A saloon or a jail or a bunk house or ...hmmm? lol I bet 90% of kids these days wouldn't give a flip about having a hoop coop.

Not Bee either but I have a hoop coop. Other than putting the canvas down on the sides to keep the drafts out I do very little else. My hens can take below freezing temps just fine. They roost together for warmth and cover their feet to keep warm.  As long as their free of drafts and have enough ventilation they will be fine in the cold. The cold doesn't bother them its the moisture in the coop from poor ventilation that causes frostbite and possibly illness.

I just ordered a heated water bucket for winter. Should it be kept in the run and not in the coop because of the humidity it may cause?
