Thanks. I really like the LAB and it is easy to make. The whole Korean natural farming is so interesting. I would like to get better at the IMO but so far it isn't proving to be as easy as the LAB. but I am a notoriously neglagent composter so that is probably my issue w/ imo. lol

I just watched this youtube video on making LAB this morning. I thought that I found the link on this thread but now I can't locate it. I wanted to thank the person who posted it! It is very interesting and I'm going to follow his directions to start mine. How did you start yours, Kassaundra?

I cheated and did brown sugar and keep it out, molasses is hard to find and when I can it is in tiny bottles for high price.

And the "curd" you end up with, watch out if you have dogs they will knock you out for it, so will the chickens. It smells nasty but the dogs and chickens think it is chocolate or something!!!!! lol

I've never read it! That line is from another book about keeping our minds looking towards eternity instead of the here and now. When you think of life that way, things that would normally stress you just don't have the power to do so. It also makes one re-evaluate their goals in life...are we building a life here or should we be building towards our life there? I find it simplifies my life so very much to realize that all these things will be gone and useless one day, so I don't attribute them with the importance that most folks do. Most of my mind's focus is on that long tomorrow...

Has anyone ever asked, or know if the chicken poo from FF breaks down faster in the composter seeing as how it went in the beak end already somewhat broken down? OK, I am giggling as I write this...but I am really curious?

They ferment best in the warmth(72 and above), so you are fine...I wouldn't place them in direct sun, but the warmth of your climate is definitely a bonus. I know vinegar cultures grow best in the dark and thought this is not much different, so I used dark buckets with the lid on but cracked open to expel any gas build up and to allow spores from the air into the mix. Stirring it every now and again helps aerate the mix but this will probably happen when you start your grains and each time you feed anyway.

I leave my working bucket right in the coop. Have to fight the CX chicks out of each time I feed....they will jump down into the bucket while I'm scooping the feed into the feeder.

Suffice to say, they really love their fermented feed and act like crazy beasts each time they get a refill.

Hi all. New member. First post here... and thanks for all the amazing insights and posts. Because of the volume and quality of all your posts, I have wiggled out onto the thin ice of my ignorance and purchased my first 15 Plymouth Barred Rock layers, and 29 CX BBQers.

We are doing this all indoors right now because we are not sure how to put them outside yet in the cold temps. Anyway, without rambling too much here, I stumbled upon this thread while searching for feed protein requirements since my local feed supply has low energy 27% protein game fowl feed as well as 20% chick starter, and I was wondering at what point it is ok or is it even recommended to switch to that at all. Anyway, I have really enjoyed reading this thread as it developed, but I keep chuckling harder and harder as I read of the chicken's responses... and the last paragraph of the above just left me

Forgive me for poking fun at this, but all I keep thinking is that you are all making little alcoholics out of your chicks.

They sound like they are acting like drug addicts jonesing for a fix!
OK, I'll shut up and go back to standing in the corner now, but that picture of the chicks
