@Dave... there sure wasn't any knowledge or even choosing in me ending up with this roo. lol But I have a feeling that most young roosters are sort of like teenage boys. They can act really bad when all together but off to their self they will act like a respectable young man. Had I known that I might not have killed all the roosters that I did. I probably would have kept a couple and maybe sold or gave the rest to people needing a good roo.

Oreo is definitely beautiful...and regal!! Love how he looks! The other one? Not so much, but he sure would be easy to process with that neck all bare like that.

In addition to awesome good looks, he is a good provider, and protector, good father and he knows his name and comes to it. (for real)

I like that! My roosters always knew their name as well...Toby hates it when I say his name and he'll shake his head every time. There is something about my "sweet" voice that he can't stand! Now, if I speak in an authoritative tone, he doesn't do that but when I'm making lovey dovey talk, he's quite disgusted by it.

I can say his name and he'll look up, I'll point to the pop door and he'll get to steppin' or if we are out of the coop and he's being a hog over some food scraps, I just say his name and point and he moves away. He's always been a smart boy. I can handle him in whatever way and he doesn't fight me or struggle, just lets me do whatever and then gives me the "look" afterwards, like he has been sooooo violated.

@Kassaundra... Oreo is really pretty and Jaxom... he is actually pretty in a little bit of a scary kind of way. lol I'd keep him! Show us some more pics please!

Just thought I would share a pic of my 4 & 1/2 week old CX. They have been on ff for 2 weeks or so now. Tomorrow is weigh in day for all of them. This is my first experience with CX so I am trying to keep a record of what I spend raising them as well as things I need to sustain or improve. I weighed a couple at random yesterday and weights are closer to 3 lbs. I have also taken pictures every week so I can have reference later.

Here's one of mine, standing next to a DP roo of the same age, last year at 4 wks. for comparison...but, remember, these were free ranged and on restricted feeds....

They get around pretty good. If I leave the tractor lid open they try to fly out all the time. I have had a few escape when I move the tractor and they run like kids getting out of school on the last day. I only feed them 3 times a day. I haven't measured the feed by weight or volume but more by eye in the bottom of the troughs. Perhaps I will start measuring volume and see how that goes but I haven't seen any issues so I keep going as I am.

You'll have to keep us updated with progress and finish weight pics...should be interesting to watch them grow! What age are you going to process?
