Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

Something funny... when I killed my roos (about 20 weeks old) I came across the testicles. I said, "what the heck is that!!!" I had only seen testicles from 6-8 week old commercial birds which is about the size of ... maybe 4-5 pieces of uncooked grains of rice all together. Once I narrowed down what they had to be I was amazed! LOL No wonder they act so bad! LOL

I saved a few and was going to fry them but never did...

I'm really, really busy paraphrasing Storey's so I can put out a book much like all the others. Wouldn't want mine to stand out from the crowd, now would I?

Since roosters have a much lower protein requirement... what would you feed a bachelor pad for roos only? Do you think fermented scratch would meet their needs?

The very first time, the very first batch...just a glorp. After that you shouldn't need ACV, as the water left over from your last batch should inoculate the next one.
Now Bee, is that larger or smaller than a 'gulp'???

LOL.... I guess I should have asked who was the manufacturer.... Oh Kay then.... Since the nearest feed mill is a four hour drive from me I have to deal with stuff you buy at the feed store. Is there an ingredient I should steer clear of...? With regard to fermentation.....

Folks are saying to avoid feeds with fish meal in them as the protein source..says it stinks so bad that CSI will be knocking on your door to investigate all the dead bodies you are hiding. Just watch your protein percentages in those prebagged feeds...I've been noticing lately that they seem to be selling feeds to folks with 20% and there isn't a layer alive that needs that level of protein to produce an egg. It can only cause problems over time to feed that high of protein, so if that is all you can get, try cutting that protein down with a lower protein whole grain, like barley, oats or corn. Some mix scratch grains in because it's all those types of stores have of whole grains, so that will work as well, but get that protein down a bit.

This fermentation will utilize every bit of that percentage by converting it to a more complete protein, so it's like taking regular food and turning it into super food for the chickens...so if you are already feeding a high pro feed, it will be like putting rocket fuel in a '64 Dodge Dart. Not necessary at all.

That's larger than a glug...a gulp is larger than a sip, whereas a glug is smaller than a glorp. Somewhere in between a gulp and a glug is a splash. I'm going to have to write this stuff down on a chart, aren't I?

edited: Oops I just looked up Layena and it is fish meal free.... Yay. I get coopons .... its 18 Percent protien... so I am guessing it has soy.
