Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

Bee, lots of people say the same....if only... I have insulation it's called lots of long johns and layering.I've never in my life been able to gain weight, only when I lost it for one reason or another.

Don't they say you have to break a few eggs to make an omelet... just saying.

Walt

Hey Walt! My mom was 5'7" and weighed in at 90 lbs. When she was pregnant (8x), she looked normal. She tried everything to gain weight. Nothing worked. Taking care of all of us kids probably didn't help either!!

What do y'all think about Red Rangers as far as Meat Birds and do they Breed true? I have found some for $2 each and they are at a hatchery I can go pick them up at.

I do know they don't breed true... they aren't a breed, they are a hybrid. Might look here https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/184354/breeding-cornish-x-rocks/ they talk about more than Cornish over Rock crosses. The Red Ranger is just a proprietary name given by the company that figured out a mid-range meat bird for people that like to free range, and don't like CX. 2$ seems very reasonable.

Unless it comes from a heritage line breeder, the RIR will be earlier maturing and will burn out earlier as well, so your Aussies will still be laying when your RIRs are going into retirement. They are considered a production type bird, whereas if you get them from stock bred to their original traits, they lay less than a hatchery strain and they will mature later as well.

ahhhh OK I see. thanx Bee, thinking about you for tomorrow and hope all goes well.

Chad,
Go back to the Freedom Ranger thread (https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/698833/freedom-rangers/80) and have a look at the latest pics I've posted. There are some 2nd generation birds there that are growing out well. Lot of folks keep saying the don't breed true but I'll tell you the birds are still just as meaty and grow well. You do get more color variation but for the most part the carcasses are nearly identical. These are not the "Red Rangers". Mine were the Freedom Rangers from Kendall over at http://www.freedomrangerhatchery.com/. I have spoken to a couple folks that had the red rangers that I think came from a hatchery in Georgia and they were both VERY disappointed.

HHmmmm FF smells like ACF and pellets.... was at least 80 in there during days and no lower than 70 at night I want instant gratification lol. whether it works or not it's Bee's fault

Started it Monday about 4 PM. I put some in the 2nd feeder this AM

for the meatys they didn't eat much, but as much as they do eat I'll probably need at least 2 of those buckets going all the time anyhow.

Ahhhh I'm starting to smell like a chicken

My mom probably well maybe made 100, all my maternal uncles were thin but weighed more than me (not much). There were 6 of us to chase. Back then there wasn't much chasing you came when you were called lol. Some of my uncles and cousins were over 6 ft, I got jipped all the way around 5'9" and never weighed more than 153 and that was an accident, usually stayed around 145.
I could eat though.
