Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

I understand that and make the effort to not take things to heart. Thank you guys for the well wishes. As far as the injury it's an old one that makes it extremely difficult to remember things. I think it has healed as much as it ever will. It makes it hard to do the daily tasks of living my significant other understands me better than anyone else including my immediate family, I seriously doubt I would be able to do as well without him.

Okay I'm not happy at all with somebody! Somebody killed one of the new chicks and ate its head off! I have a feeling I know which pullet did it too, well one of two - can't really tell them apart. I took the mama and remaining three chicks out and put them in a cage to their selves. I was hoping they would act "chicken civilized" and let chicks grow up amongst them! Any advise beyond eating the murdering culprit? If I only knew for sure who did it...

Sorry to hear that. I haven't had any experience raising chicks from a broody hen, but everyone I saw that did seemed to keep them seperated. I have a couple of hens that pick on the meaty chicks when they are out, it has slowed now that they are nearly as big.

Thanks Walt. This is my first go at letting a broody hatch and raise chicks too. I was hoping that they could be raised with the flock but I guess not. I guess I better keep that run for the broody and chicks in the coop plans.

I am so sorry about your chick, TW. That has to be heartbreaking. I've never been brave enough to put my mamas and babies in with the others, but they have all been out together free ranging when the babies got a little bigger.

Thank you. Yeah that is what I will do from now on. Hopefully the three will make it okay. The pullet is not too happy being away from the flock.

So sorry TW but are you sure it wasn't some other kind of critter that did that. I have read about something just eating the heads off and leaving the rest. Might want to search on here for predators and make sure. I saw one the other night and it had all the predators on there and you could click on each one and see how they do.
