I'm praying for some wet heavy snows this winter! And no, I'm not crazy!! I would loved to get snowed in for a few days. We had an ice storm 5-6 years ago at Christmas. It lasted 5 days for us. We heat with wood, had a generator, gas grill, and we have well water. My two daughters and their familes came to stay with us. We cooked Christmas dinner on the grill and used the generator to run my electric roaster. It was the best time EVER!! Loved every minute of it. Many of our friends had no electric or water for a lot longer than we, and some even went to hotels. They had the roads cleared after a day or two, but it took them alot of time to get power back up. I would love to have another few days like that. I know a lot of people had a very hard time, so I don't want bad things to happen to others, but for us, we make do. And even better, we also have free ranged chickens in the freezer, and eggs, and maybe venison, if DS gets a good shot off!!It didn't last very long and it didn't stick but it's just the first. I have a feeling we are going to get many heavy, wet snows this winter and around here that means weeks of lost power....the power goes out here if someone sneezes too hard on a sunny, summer day.But...we are prepared, with feed, food, wood and water stocked up, as per usual for us folks living in the boonies, so it's not something we stress over. Warm fire, free ranged and home raised chicken soup or venison stew, homemade bread, a good book and we are golden!![]()
