Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

Triple willow and Beekissed, Thanks for your response. I've already got some farro that I set out for sprouting and it was too old and just opened up so I added a little sugar and am hoping it ferments. I also for a source for Kombucha mother.  I'm gonna get healthier!  I have spent way to much time reading about this stuff lately!  Seems most of the primitive peoples of the world all had fermented foods that kept them healthier than we are today.  The Scots drank whey and ate yogurt every day and were incredibly healthy and those that don't eat that way anymore are not.  Check out a Weston Price on the internet. His findings are fascinating.   : )

Hi Beverly. Ah yes, all this fermenting stuff can be very interesting. I agree, we would all be better off if we eat a lot of fermented foods too. Yes Weston Price is great! I am going to start eating more fermented stuff myself. Have a great day!

You are absolutely right Beverly. There is so much that people have forgotten and need to remember in order to be healthier. I also read Dr. Weston Prices website there is a lot of nutritional information there that is simply poorly or not at all available anywhere else.

Ditto!

cool yeah we had several oaks in our yard get worms on them and they ate every leaf off the trees and the trees wound up dying. Sure hope yours doesn't but it WAS in the heat of the summer that happened.

We have a bunch of big old oaks but they all do really well except one. Every year it looks like it gets some kind of fungus on the leaves but it doesn't kill it. We did have two big spruce trees that had those dang bag worms on them. I finally had them cut down this year. I am thinking about replacing them with some kind of fruit or nut trees. I WISH I had planted a fruit/nut orchard years ago, along with some fruit bushes.

And so what fermented foods do you find palatable? I actually only know of yogurt and sour kraut. What else can we eat? I'm going to start making Kombucha tea; got some of the mother. : ) beverly

Hi, I just read up on them and want at least two! Pretty , crested AND blue eggs? What could be better? But one person $60 for a pair because they are rare, but gave 4 diff. hatcheries that sold them. That seems fairly available to me. Does anyone where they are cheaper or would eggs be a better idea? : ) loin' chickens, beverly

I just don't get how this thing works! I respond to someone's comment right under it and it turns up somewhere else under a totally unrelated comment or thread. What am I doing wrong? Besides leaving out words, that is. beverly

If your commenting on a specific post the easiest way is to hit the quote button then type your comment, it links the two like this.

I haven't tried very many but I like yogurt, kraut, kefir and pickles. I tried kambucha tea one time but didn't like it too well. If I can find two brain cells to rub together( lol) I am going to check into fermented foods again. I know they are good for us, just look at our chickens. Isn't the woman who does a lot of work in fermented foods named Sally Fallon? Seems like she is the one with cookbooks out. I think her info can be found on Dr. Weston Price's website.

I take it some time in the past "bee" made panties for her silkie hen? Just think of all the fun Ive missed!! I spend way too much time on here as it is - - - deliberately avoiding chat rooms and such as that but "chickens"? That's another story entirely!! Love those peeps! beverly
