Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

That's not too bad. Looks like a tiny chicken. There are several bird hunters around here. A few of them raise Bob Whites. I may get some one of these day - but I'd like to have some Chukars.

Its priceless, this is the same dog eho asks for help ehen the cats steal her beanbag..
Brilliant stuff, last dog killed half the flock, , this one believes its her job to keep them off the deck and share their scraps. Theyve got very bold!

lol What kind of dog is it? (My dogs would kill my whole flock given the chance!)

Yeah I am afraid that might be a problem with me. Kill that little creature for that little amount of meat... I don't know. Maybe if you can get their heads cut off real quick. Then they won't be so cute. But then again, come slaughter day I might just open the cages and say, "Goooo, be free little birdies, beee freeee!" ...then go hug my favorite tree of course. LOL

I was reading something about quail eggs are supposed to be really healthy to eat raw. I don't know if there is anything to it or not.

In my meet up there are several people who eat their eggs raw and say they can taste any difference in their chicken's diet. I know the nutritive value is higher but I can't do it, even gotta have the little strings that hold the yolk suspended cooked! :)

When my ckns. were babies they walked all over my 100 pd. pit bull, ate out of his dish and napped on top of him....very tolerant. These days when they try to steal his treats he growls at them, which made me wonder if he'd go after one of them some day. Well, "some day" came and he went after omy favorite girl. I was there and lit into him like crazy, (feeling sure chicken was dead, he's got a mouth on him that is downright cavernous!) I then with; a lot of fear I check on my hen. Her whole head and shoulders are wet with slime, (think Cujo here,) but not one ruffled feather! He had done her so little in the way of rough handling that she wasn't the least bit bothered and went right back trying to eat his food! He just wanted her out of his face so he could eat in peace. He knew what he was doing. You know how they teach hunting dogs "soft mouth" so they bring back the ducks or whatever in perfect condition. He has good instincts. He is the way pits are meant to be. He hasn't an aggressive bone in his body. All that was bred out of them then all these poor people wanted mean dogs to protect their property and bred it back into them. There are "puppy mills" outside Austin in the countryside where they breed them for aggression. I wouldn't be surprised if there weren't dog fighting still going on "in them thar hills."

@Beverly... In my much younger days I would sometimes put a raw egg in my chocolate milk. lol It tasted fine but I didnt like the slimy texture! Blaaa!

Sounds like you have a good dog. Yeah the town I live near put such strict regulations on pitbulls and even part pitbulls that most people had to get rid of them. I believe it was $100,000 insurance, a six foot tall fence with another foot or two in the ground and any time they are out of the pen they have to be muzzeled. I can't remember if the pen has to have a top on it or not. The agressive ones had got to be a big problem. The police were afraid to go into certain areas because of them. The drug dealers and that type folks had a bunch of them especially in one area. There were pitts attacking people pretty regularly -even elderly and young kids being attacked. I guess we also have dog fighting around here. The last person to get caught was maybe five years ago. I don't know how people can do that.

I allow my dogs to defend their own food in that manner as well. There has to be something that is totally theirs, so I let them growl and lunge on the birds if they won't leave their food alone. Same with each other...there is a politeness factor that is needed for animals to live together and that means no one tries to steal the other guy's food. If they don't listen to the growl and lunge, they deserve to have the wrath descend upon them, IMO. It never goes that far here.

Now, if the chickens have a meal that the dog tries to steal, I intervene....and tell him "Chicken food, not yours...leave it!" and he will slink off and sulk a bit over it but he generally will "leave it" even if my back is turned.

The only creature allowed to take food from another here is ME. And that must be given up immediately, no complaints and with a smile and a wag of the tail~or the fluff of the tail feathers~ thank you. No food aggression is allowed towards humans. That's why ol' BUD got whomped into an unchicken the other day...he hadn't learned the cardinal rule: No aggression towards humans here.

What's an "unchicken"? Is that what Bud became once in the "pot"?? :)

They could put an end to all that with a law that says after one complaint a dog must be assessed for aggressiveness by an expert, like they do at the pound before releasing a dog up for adoption. If he is found to be "bad" he must be put down. Eventually the streets would be rid of the bad ones and hopefully people would stop breeding that kind. Then those of us with good dogs will be left in peace. And a dog that attacks, goes down period. I know some sick people like to antagonize dogs to make them throw themselves at the fence then, one day someone leaves the fence not well closed and he walks by. The fool is at fault but the dog must be put down. It sickens me when I hear the stories of dogs "snapping" and turning on masters and children or strangers. I guess its that bad gene pool and I was just lucky? My son has had 3 and they were all so smart and easily trained. You'd be amazed at how many separate commands they know!
