What's an "unchicken"? Is that what Bud became once in the "pot"??![]()
No..that's what folks called him when he seemed to come back from the dead. The whomp sent him down in a crumple and it appeared that he stopped breathing and had died, so his carcass was tossed over in the woods for wild animal consumption. The next day he was walking...well..lurching..across the yard. He no longer attacks humans, but has been labeled the "unchicken" because they feel he is a chicken zombie. He has straightened up but still has a little bit of a hitch in his giddy up when he walks and a wing wants to sag a little. He will be processed with the next round of birds but until then he is BUD, the unchicken.
It's not typical that I hit a bird so hard that it turns him into an unchicken, but it just happened that way...I felt pretty bad about it later, prayed to God and asked forgiveness for my quickness to wrath, so when I saw him still alive I felt somewhat better. I normally don't act that hasty on such things but it was just the wrong action at the wrong time for poor BUD and he got the tail end of the whirlwind. I've treated him gently since and even help him find space on the roosts when the big gals won't let him up there, but he will be in the pot soon.
He has even earned a starring role in the murder mystery of Dave Leghorn, as BUD Lipnicky, and is a key player in the great finale of the play. Note the glowing red eyes of the "unchicken"? Just a trick of photography but sure did add to his reputation as such!
