This is a very sore subject, nowadays. I haven't heard zip from my three, who are in their 40s now, for at least 15 years.
You need to look no further than the Government Indoctrination Centers (public schools) to find the reason.
My wife was a substitute teacher in the middle and high schools in Calvert County Maryland, and the little darlings are taught that there is absolutely NO one like them, that they are unique, etc., and if anyone corrects or disciplines them that they should turn them in to the law, social services, or whomever. Even their parents, or maybe ESPECIALLY their parents.
Kids are graduating without even being able to read, write or sign or SPELL, even, their own names, because to hold them back (i.e: fail them) would "hurt their self-respect and demoralize them".
The government is playing race against race, parents against kids and vice versa, countries against countries, all for their own self-aggrandizement... and guess what?... it's working, People. It's working. Welcome to the New USSA.
I'm really sorry you are having to deal with that Robert. I know it has got to be very, very hurtful. Elder abuse and neglect and chilld abuse and neglect are right there together in my opinion. I might could understand if this woman hadn't been a good mother but honestly, nobody could have possibly asked for a better mother or grandmother. If you had to describe this woman's life it would be a lifetime of service to her children first but also to others. You have heard of a "give and take" relationship...? Yep, she gives and they take! They seldom come around unless they want something.
You are so very right about this screwed up society that we have created! And yep, it is more like the USSA more every single day! We are creating little monsters! The bible says that in the last days that people's "love will grow cold". I believe we are seeing that, no doubt.
Breeding isn't the same as exhibiting. They should be the same but they aren't. At a show, you can't tell what color of egg a chicken lays unless she produces one, but egg color is important to many breeds. I remember reading in the standard for the Maran that a dark brown egg was the most important quality for the breed. I don't think the Maran standard has been published in the SOP yet, so it might end up being the one I read when it is finally published. I don't believe that the SOP even mentions egg colors for Ameraucanas, but they must have a blue egg.
"Marans are best known for their large, russet brown eggs. This is a defining characteristicHere is what Marans Club USA says about the SOP:

NEGLECTED......not prioritized, especially if one is breeding for meat as I am, and most likely not at the expense of the conformation SOP."Marans are best known for their large, russet brown eggs. This is a defining characteristic
of the Marans breed, so selection for egg color and size should never be neglected."
(Quoted from the link above.)
That was my point. If you look at any Maran standard world wide, including the French standard, the egg color is mentioned first.
Okay now I'm just really confused, I thought the SOP people were the ultimate "They" god in chickendom, so if "they" don't require egg color then who is the other almighty "they" that "requires" it? (I am asking legitimately not trying to be a smart###)
It's looking more and more like it. Don't forget what Hitlery Klinton said, "It takes a community to raise a child." Communism, plain and simple.
Just cut the kids loose, wild, in the 'hood and let 'em raise hell and raise themselves. Most will wind up in jail, or pregnant, or on drugs, dead... or all of the above.
Carol and I are self-sustaining, so far. I'll be 72 in March and she'll be 66. We're relatively healthy, thank The Lord, so we'll just have to see how it all pans out.
In the meantime, God bless all here, and the USA, and all our friends. Praying for Peace,
Bob
