The mother couldn't have possibly sacrificed any more to give and care for that child and her grandkids and great grandkids (and still does!) - time, money, possessions, literally any and everything. Never ever a "no" to them. Now that the mom needs help, child and their family have NO TIME. If it were up to them they would collect their inheritance, grandma would be warehoused in a resthome and forgot about. If THIS child can do their mother the way they are after how their mother smothered them in love and care their whole life, I have absolutely no confidence in anybody in this world. If I were that mom I would leave every last dollar and possession I have to "Save the Whales" or something - not to my self-centered selfish child and her family. But she STILL gives and they still TAKE."

This is a very sore subject, nowadays. I haven't heard zip from my three, who are in their 40s now, for at least 15 years.

You need to look no further than the Government Indoctrination Centers (public schools) to find the reason.

My wife was a substitute teacher in the middle and high schools in Calvert County Maryland, and the little darlings are taught that there is absolutely NO one like them, that they are unique, etc., and if anyone corrects or disciplines them that they should turn them in to the law, social services, or whomever. Even their parents, or maybe ESPECIALLY their parents.

Kids are graduating without even being able to read, write or sign or SPELL, even, their own names, because to hold them back (i.e: fail them) would "hurt their self-respect and demoralize them".

The government is playing race against race, parents against kids and vice versa, countries against countries, all for their own self-aggrandizement... and guess what?... it's working, People. It's working. Welcome to the New USSA.

I'm really sorry you are having to deal with that Robert. I know it has got to be very, very hurtful. Elder abuse and neglect and chilld abuse and neglect are right there together in my opinion. I might could understand if this woman hadn't been a good mother but honestly, nobody could have possibly asked for a better mother or grandmother. If you had to describe this woman's life it would be a lifetime of service to her children first but also to others. You have heard of a "give and take" relationship...? Yep, she gives and they take! They seldom come around unless they want something.

You are so very right about this screwed up society that we have created! And yep, it is more like the USSA more every single day! We are creating little monsters! The bible says that in the last days that people's "love will grow cold". I believe we are seeing that, no doubt.

It's looking more and more like it. Don't forget what Hitlery Klinton said, "It takes a community to raise a child." Communism, plain and simple.

Just cut the kids loose, wild, in the 'hood and let 'em raise hell and raise themselves. Most will wind up in jail, or pregnant, or on drugs, dead... or all of the above.

Carol and I are self-sustaining, so far. I'll be 72 in March and she'll be 66. We're relatively healthy, thank The Lord, so we'll just have to see how it all pans out.

In the meantime, God bless all here, and the USA, and all our friends. Praying for Peace,

Bob

Breeding isn't the same as exhibiting. They should be the same but they aren't. At a show, you can't tell what color of egg a chicken lays unless she produces one, but egg color is important to many breeds. I remember reading in the standard for the Maran that a dark brown egg was the most important quality for the breed. I don't think the Maran standard has been published in the SOP yet, so it might end up being the one I read when it is finally published. I don't believe that the SOP even mentions egg colors for Ameraucanas, but they must have a blue egg.

Okay now I'm just really confused, I thought the SOP people were the ultimate "They" god in chickendom, so if "they" don't require egg color then who is the other almighty "they" that "requires" it? (I am asking legitimately not trying to be a smart###)

Here is what Marans Club USA says about the SOP:

http://maranschickenclubusa.com/StandardofPerfection.html
"Marans are best known for their large, russet brown eggs. This is a defining characteristic
of the Marans breed, so selection for egg color and size should never be neglected."

(Quoted from the link above.)

That was my point. If you look at any Maran standard world wide, including the French standard, the egg color is mentioned first.

NEGLECTED......not prioritized, especially if one is breeding for meat as I am, and most likely not at the expense of the conformation SOP.

Egg color is in the proposed SOP standard and is in the the French standard, which covers all of Europe, as well as other national breed clubs. It is only common sense that when the standard refers to egg color and egg size as being the defining characteristics of the breed, then that quality is pretty darn important. Just because it can't be proved at a poultry show doesn't mean that breeders are not ethically bound to breed to standard for egg color. Many national Maran organizations go further and advise culling hens that don't have a #4 egg color as a minimum. I can't think of any fault being worse than one where culling is the solution.

Following a discussion on the ideal silhouette of a Maran, the French breed club says this:
"This represents an undeniable signature of the breed, like color of its eggs or feathering of its shanks."

So, yes, color of eggs is a defining feature of the breed whether it can be proven at a poultry show or not.

I would think that, ideally, one would be breeding and culling for both distinctions on this breed so as to not lose either original quality of the bird...that is, if one were interested in preserving the breed to its original traits. I believe it was first noticed for its meat flavor and development and then later caught interest for the color of the eggs, so a return to that original dual trait would be the goal, I imagine, if one were trying to uphold good breeding standards.

Bob, I hope you and Carol stay self-sustaining for a very, very long time. Maybe the older folks in our society need to "invent" a new way of surviving since the children/family can't be depended on any longer - maybe some sort of "community" where help from our neighbors can be depended upon. I don't know but something has got to be done and FAST! I don't know any numbers but I am sure the "nursing/resthome" industry is expanding greatly - exploding probably. I can imagine a day when the government tries to take care of that. Now that they are taking control of healthcare I can easily imagine some drastic (and horrific) measures being taken.

The sooner the Lord rescues us from this mess the better!!! God bless you too Bob, saying a prayer for you and Carol. :)

(I bet you do have some good Mennonite neighbors. There are several that live around me, as well as several Amish. I like both their ways of life much better than ours.)
