Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

Yay! It IS exciting! I love the babies. Such good mamas, 1st creatures that haven't needed some sort of assistance.
I can't wait to show some!

Well, chickens are perking up. I suspect it being above freezing and therefore not turning the mud on their feathers to ice is helping with that... No eggs from the 6 newbies yet.

The good news is that one of my rabbits just gave birth! She showed NO signs of pregnancy and gave birth before my very eyes after frantically building a nest. That is SUPER rare. She's still cleaning up right now but I am excited! She's done well so far and this is her first litter! She's also one of my show quality girls. :3

I will get pics tomorrow, as it's a bit late tonight but I got them in the box and there are eight, all fed and squirming. Mom is still a bit of a mess. Half the fur on her legs is still pink... I suspect she will have cleaned up by morning. I gave her an alfalfa cube and some kale, recently revealed to still be fresh under the snow. I need to add my baby wire to the cage... Her pregnancy was unexpected and accidental. She got out with my 5mo buck and they frolicked together for a bit. I have since secured both cages, of course but I wasn't sure they'd bred or not since the buck is so young... But I got her in a secure cage with tons of hay just in case and I am glad I did! But the cage doesn't have kit-safe wire on it yet. I use 2X4 in wire for the main walls and the babies can slip through that when they start coming out of the nest so I wrap chicken wire around the bottom foot of the cage. Works well.

I hope the chickens continue to improve by morning!

That was interesting!

I named her after the Troglodyte song from the 70s and there is a local strip bar in town called Big Bertha also. She was just so HUGE, even compared to the rest of the WRs.

However did you stumble upon that little article?
