Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

I caught mine yesterday swimming in the pond like ducks bobbing for fish. Then the temp dropped and I had to go chisel them out of the darn pond! Really! hehehe
I didn't know that chickens swim......Mine have been drinking out of the dog's kiddie pool. In the mornings it is often frozen over, so they get on the edge of the pool, and sometimes go sliding across the ice......funny to watch!

Quote: I am going through these in order so if this has been answered sorry. Marek's cannot be prevented. The vaccine meerly keeps the birds from having the symptoms, or reduces the symptoms. I feel the vaccine only gives you a false sense of security.... while your birds are still contagious with the disease. Boosting the immune system can only be a good thing.

I've ordered from McMurray and Meyer and liked both - good service. I did have the ones I ordered vaccinated for Marek's. I hear there is now a vaccine for cocci. I believe I would get that one unless I hear something bad about it.
I had the hatchery ones I got from McMurray this past spring vaccinated for coccidiosis as well as Marek's.....

I had one of my incubator chicks that I had caponized develop weakness on one side, but he remained able to walk....just kinda acted like he had lost his balance. Don't know for sure if it was Marek's or not, but I separated him from the others and he got better. I didn't have any problems with any others, even though they weren't vaccinated. He is a big beautiful bird, but a slip.....so he is headed to the freezer the next time I process.

I read on another thread yesterday that there are 9 kinds of cocci and the latest vaccine only covers 3 or so. So it's a crap shoot. By the way, I love your ducks uh I mean chickens.

We get an excellent price and free shipping at purely poultry. Funny is they drop ship and our chicks arrive from different hatcheries so I called the hatcheries they actually came from thinking it'd be cheaper to go to the source...it wasn't! Almost .75-1 dollar more direct. Huh but we like them so far

Did you get a special or something? I checked purely poultry and they charge $20 for 15-100 ordered. And the prices are way higher than hoover. Maybe they weren't making enough money doing it free and went up. You are the one that's making a plucker, right? Is it finished yet? Tried it? Inquiring minds and all that.
