Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

@Bee... Sounds like you had a wonderful day at church. hehe I love just sitting around with the animals too. They have got a pretty cool world that they live in, if you know what I mean. I use to love to just go out in the middle of nowhere and have a seat and watch and listen. :) Funny how the girls approved of that training episode. LOL

You put your finger right on it...that's sort of been part of my "church" for the last 2 years and I'm loving that part of it. I've had such good talks with the Lord while out there surrounded by nature and those simple, humble animals.

He does such wondrous work!

Ever have the animals step back and look at you like your nuts wondering WHO you're talking to? hahaha

TDubya... As beat up as his poor comb is looking, it appears he's been in a boxing match with old man winter... So Rocky could work !

WBF.....my two Bresse have the most horrible looking combs.....both of them are going to lose a lot because of the frostbite. I'm just hoping they don't get infected at this point. Rocky is too good of a name for mine....they are more like the victims of the zombie apocalypse

My BA rooster, Rodney's, isn't looking so swell either and I'm sure by the time it's all over I think most of his points will be missing or severely deformed. So far no signs of infection but I'm going to give his comb a spray of Vetericyn tomorrow to try and stave off any potential infection. I sure hope yours come out of this with no infection as well, BC !

@WBF... I figured "Rocky" might fit him now. LOL My Ancona is going to lose half the length of his wattles and probably the Leghorn too. A couple Delawares will lose some points off their combs. I noticed one of my Leghorn pullets has a little white on a couple of her points but I think she will be okay. I hope crazy weather like that doesn't become a regular thing!

From what I've been reading in this and other threads, a large number of roosters have suffered frostbitten wattles and/or combs in recent weeks.

I sure hope you're right about this crazy weather, it can take a hike anytime it so desires.

Today was beautiful here; 45 f and lots of sunshine ! I got the chance to give the coop a good cleaning and dump a bunch of clean, dry litter in as well as change all the nest boxes with fresh, dry hay. The girls and Rodney were out in full foraging force today from daylight until dark and even when dusk fell there were a number of last minute stragglers that seemed mighty hesitant to head into roost for the night... They were thoroughly enjoying the Spring like day we had. Makes me long for warm, sun filled spring/summer days which I know are ahead... I can almost smell the beauty of Spring and I'm sure the girls can too ! :)
