Quote: My rotties liked to stay outside during the winter days--- pretty short coats on them, too. Being house dogs, they were in most nights, unless they want to go out. I have a large fenced front yard for the dogs to play. It is my understanding LGD dogs need access to a barn for shelter; only in the range situation are the dogs expected to sleep out under the stars.
I use a picket fenced yard and a good training to control my dogs. Being rotties like labs they have a high pain tolerance, and would just blast thru an invisible fence. Working dogs tend to have a high tolerance for pain is my guess.
We don't have the roaming packs of dogs here though, and actually few people have dogs. ONly about 50% of the families I know have dogs.
