Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

Okay guys, so after reading and asking a lot of questions I finally got to ferment. Yet I don't get bubbles or odor. I mixed layer pullets, water, buttermilk and boss. It just looks like water everything. My chickens love it but not sure if it is really fermented

Just give it time...it has to ferment sooner or later if it's in a warm enough place. Leave the lid cracked so that it draws in some wild yeasts and can let gas escape and you should be golden.

Dolfi, 24 hrs is good if you're in a hot, humid summery climate.. Up here it's like 1-2 weeks for it to really kick off and it NEVER bubbles in the 60 degree air it is in. It was only bubbling at 75+ish for me.

It varies depending upon ambient temps, materials being fermented, charger used or not used, and even how much water you use....I think it would be hard to smell the fermentation when using a lot of water over the feed until the ferment deepened a good bit.

No worries, the longer it sits the more the ferment grows and soon you will smell something sour going on.

Dolfi, 24 hrs is good if you're in a hot, humid summery climate.. Up here it's like 1-2 weeks for it to really kick off and it NEVER bubbles in the 60 degree air it is in. It was only bubbling at 75+ish for me.

Lol. Temperature is at 65 in the house. Hum I'll put it in the hatching closet. Yet I been feeding it like that and they literally attack me in the mornings. I love it.

Mine always smells barfish!     And not just regular barf but Mad Dog 20/20 barf.  After it hits fermentation mine never smells sweet..and not a bit like sweet apples.  Lucky you! 

I miss my sweet smell. It smelled that way all summer up until a week or so ago. I don't like vomit potpourri. LOL

Mine is in the shop...like 62dg...it bubbles and I've added ACV with mother....I like the smell...MD20/20 barf, not so much....:-D

Got a mondo egg today from one of the pullets....it's cool to get those but I hope she doesn't make a habit of it. FF is doing good in this cold weather and in my bedroom...not too active, just right. I miss the bottom bucket, though, as it seemed to always come out good with that system on the amount of water to feed, but with just the single bucket I seem to have a tougher time getting my mix just right any longer. It's good but not great.

When spring comes, back to the double bucket!

How weird! I did too! I treasure those but I promptly scolded the little girl whom I THINK laid the monster. She was laying on top of the nest box last night instead of on the perch. I put her on the perch. This morning I should have paid more attention to how she was moving. I didn't notice a thing different and then tonight, upon closing up, I found that tremendous thing. I hope she doesn't do that again! Naughty girl!

Mine is an old, old scoby now....it's been going for over a year now, same juices. It can smell a little rank.
