Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

Well! That was a busy topic for a bit! XD I think we all have our own beliefs here... But the awesome thing is that no matter how passionately we believe (or not) in certain things that we can all come together over all sorts of things! Even celibate Bee has dirty stories and even those of us with our science and data experience some pretty spectacular and magical things and know how incredible they are! Someone posted an egg chart for development of an egg in another thread and an egg has a heartbeat at three days old! How amazing is that? We all share a passion for chickens and raising healthy animals... I think we all like to spread good will and love... I think what world leaders and extremeists need is to settle down with a flock of chickens, raise them naturally for a while, learn to mesh with and lead their flock, and then come here. I think this is a place where the whole world could get along!

Yeah, I mentioned the nice weather (raining again tonight) because the snow is SO thick that is still isn't close to melted away. We, too, are due to drop back down into bitter cold and single digits by mid next week. In the meantime I am taking major advantage of the break in temps! I cleaned the deep litter out of the chicken coop and I sure am glad I did as it was getting to be a mess! It is now the base for a new compost pile full of hay, chicken poop and newspapers from my parents. I will be cleaning as many rabbit cages as I can to add to said pile, and removing the top layer of the old compost into this new pile to kick it off. Then I will spread the old compost over the garden beds where it will spend its last month or two rotting out and remocing salts under the snow before spring. I will be taking all the old hay and leftovers from the chickens (unwanted veggies etc) and adding them to the pile, and all the old hay from in front of the rabbit hutch. The new compost pile is going to be several times the size of the old one once I am done! Next years garden full of composted chicken poop promises to be spectacular with this compost pile! And I couldn't do any of it without the new pitchfork I bought! It is impossible to "shovel" hay and shredded paper! I am so glad I got this pitchfork...

[Thats the one altho usually they run darker can be lots of colors tho. They are from Russia the Causus region. The cheapest Ive seen em was a grand they ave 2.Grand typically. Thats cool that a family theme is emerging here. They are ranked No. 1 in guard.dogs in the world. It is very much in the training and handling of them. Who guarding the guard dog eh? Youd better have a chip in em. Thhe darker phased ones do look like bears watch Ill probably get shot in the process Ill have fun in the mean time.tho ha. quote name="Beekissed" url="/t/644300/fermenting-feed-for-meat-birds/14640#post_12871175"] You're going to laugh but I think my sister has one of these! She got it in another state and paid out the wazooty for it because there are very few in the US and these had been imported from blah, blah, blah, etc. He's absolutely HUGE...and I mean huge. He lives in a horse trailer. She has done nothing with him...just tied him to that trailer and feeds him. He was supposed to be a LGD on her farm but she was too afraid to let him do that job because he is so expensive and hard to get and she didn't take the time to train him on her sheep. Poor thing. He's a nice dog, too. Wish I had him. [/quote]

As
As I mentioned earlier a Caucasian Mountain dog. They make a great bear dog and AK is bear country
I hope you have one! We looked and there isn't a breeder in the state and to have one flown up was ridiculous! Karelian Bear dogs are amazing, we had one a few years ago that didn't come back from "doing her job". They are unlike most others when it comes to bears, they lead the bears away and won't return until it has left the area and all is safe instead of barking and running after it. We now have a Great Pyrenees female that just turned 1 and I would have to say she is the best dog we've ever had for the kids, the animals and as a warning system. Depending on where you live, bears aren't as big of a problem as most would think. I have only ever seen the 1 bear around here in the 9 years we've live on the farm. Congrats on the move though! It's such a wonderful place to live!

Oh if theres a Heaven its in AK. Ill take the Marine hwy up. it is unbelievable porpoise whales sea birds even had a hummingbird come out to the boat. Buying 15 acres Otc around willow so close enough but out in the sticks Was he a blackie or brownie? This iis not fair its early there still. We saw blackies when I was up in Juneau I thought it odd we were tenting it on Mt Roberts and nature called at 230 or 3 am and it was light out It wont be soon enough They had Clydesdales on the boat up it was the beginning of the tourist season then Big rumble from the carport on occasion. Well talk again g nite

I live a little further out "in the sticks" but very close to Willow! A small town just north of there, Talkeetna. I was born and raised in this town and when given the chance to move I just couldn't pull myself away from here. It was a black bear, I can count the brown bears I've seen in Talkeetna in my 28 years on one hand. We like to refer to Alaska as "God's Country", religious or not that's what the locals call it. I live right on one of the major salmon fishing rivers (our land literally ends 15 feet from the bank) and we just don't see many bears.

WOW!!! I've been there!!!!

I went on a big trip when I was 8yo with my family and we visited some family friends who lived in Talkeetna! Don't remember that much of it, but it was I know my little bunny that I had taken on our 2 month trip (China, Japan, Korea, Hon Kong, Hawaii, California) was stolen at the restaurant one night. It was the last leg of the trip and someone had actually come up to the corner and ASKED for my stuffy! I was sure heartbroken.

Sun throughout the night in the summer is fun. Here in central Alberta we get only 3 hours of dark in the summer. It's lots of fun!

A few years ago we went to the Yukon and it was just a few days from the solstice. Beautiful! We have a photo of the family taken at 1am in full sunlight!!!

This is not as bad as any of youalls stories but I'll tell it anyway. I had a calf with me in my 58' Chevy PU, on the front seat (bench seat) with it's head hanging out the passenger side window, doggy style, when it let loose its bladder. That 2-3 day old baby held at least a gallon of pee. I was drowned in it!! : (
