Maybe this has been asked, but I didn't see it. When a rooster does his business with a hen, how long does his stuff last? How many eggs can get fertilized if the hen lays every day?
I ask because our roo isn't a very busy boy, and when he is, he's very selective to a couple hens. He'll tag the others about once a week, but when I get a hen to go broody, I want eggs from each bird to be hatched.

You can check your eggs to see if they are fertile. They should stay fertile for 2 weeks or longer after they have been bred, though the fertility does drop over time. You can crack an egg open to see if it's fertile. Do a thread search for "how to tell if an egg is fertile". You should find some good pics that will help you to determine what you're looking for.
