Fertile eggs on ebay

Pics
I would be very sad if I bought hatching eggs and zero of them hatched. I wouldn't expect a refund though. Most sellers are very clear that they cannot guarantee hatch rates.
I would be sad as well but also at the same time I would understand the risks involved.

I ordered eggs on eBay the past 3 years. The hatch rates have varied. One box of eggs went from northern California to Alabama, then to me in WA state. Someone had opened the box, unwrapped one of the eggs and threw it back in. I let the seller know that none were developing and how badly the post office had screwed up. Poor eggies. I wanted some Brahmas, so knowing how bad the hatch rate on shipped eggs can be, I ordered 15. Eleven hatched! Don't count your chickens before they hatch works both ways, lol. I just ordered a total of 36 eggs, some from the hatchery, and some from eBay. Six of them are under a broody, I candled when she was out and all 6 are developing. I hope to get about 12 chicks total.

The point is that after they leave the post office, it's not your concern. I was disappointed, but I started buying from people closer to me, which helps. Don't give a refund, you shouldn't have to. I was an ebay seller for 4 years going through nursing school, and there is about 1 in 100 that will never be happy no matter what you do.

As a long-term orderer of eBay eggs, I have been deeply grateful to sellers who were willing to send me replacement eggs when some have been cracked or when I have gotten a 0% hatch, but that was their kindness to do so and they certainly didn't owe me any more. I never order less than 8+ though and try to get a dozen at a time because of poor hatch rates. In both cases, I paid shipping for the replacements and they sent me several, not the same number as I originally ordered, but getting any was just out of the goodness of their heart. It is okay to state you won't do it in your ad but if someone contacts you and they are nice and would be willing to pay shipping for more, it's up to YOU if you want to do it, but I can't stress enough, you are NOT obligated to do so! For mine, I did take pictures to prove my claims. IF you want to send the buyer more, make them photo the alleged non-hatched eggs with the date on a note in the frame. Make sure you mark your eggs uniquely so you will recognize your own shells, verify the eggs are yours and that the pic is current. It is even okay to ask them to crack them open and see if they are quitters or blastoceles without bullseyes...but you don't have to do ANYTHING. If you do get negative feedback, I believe there is a place to post a rebuttal comment on the review, like if someone posted "none hatched' you can make a note explaining your side. I will say, when reading sellers' feedback profiles, quite a few sellers do seem to try and resolve things, and I do see buyers post being upset about receiving zero contact from seller to work stuff out. Now, as for hatch rate, I have seen ONE...count it, ONE!...seller who guaranteed hatch rate, and the price was appropriately exorbitant. They would replace eggs if no babies hatched. That is the only time I have ever seen or heard of anyone doing that due to all the variables others have mentioned already in here.

This buyer wasn't really rude but also wasn't not.. if that makes sense. They messaged me saying none hatched and i said i was sorry to hear that and wondered what went wrong... and then boom a return request...to which they haven't even replied to any of the stuff regarding that one. I now have to wait and hope that Ebay sides with me i guess.

Don't give a refund and don't replace the eggs! You did your part as a seller if you have any problems contact Ebay by phone and talk to a real person. Don't be scared of a negative feedback either, let the person leave one it only makes THEM look bad since you can post your own reply below their feedback. They can't just trash you one sided. Handle this correctly because if you're going to sell eggs or pretty much anything this person won't be your last whiner.:)

Another thing; return requests require you to return the defective item without having damaged it further. Like, you can't get a clock, smash it with a hammer, then send it back. You can't get a candy bar, eat half of it, then send it back.

Pretty sure that having stored the eggs in an incubator for a month and having likely thrown them out because they're rotting makes it impossible for the person in question to return it in relatively the same state it arrived in. 9_9

In case they get nit-picky with you about wanting to "return" their item.

I sold fertile eggs 3 weeks ago, I also but 10 egg in my incubator and 9 chicks hatch, but the person that got fertile eggs from me shortly after, just contacted me and said non of the eggs I sold him hatched.
he had told me before that he had got 20 eggs from another person and only 2 chick hatch, so I offerd to hatch some chicks for him in my incubator because his incubator is not werrry good :/

so it could also be that the person just didn't have a good incubator, I have one really bad incubator that showed me that the heat in the incubator was fine, but I felt like sometimes the eggs where cold so I took another thermometer and then I saw the incubator was somtimes to hot and some times to cold so I stoped use that that incubator and bought a new one which has been much better, 9 egg out of 10 hatching is really good in my opinion so I'm really happy with that new incubator I got :)

and also it's always a risk ordering eggs online to so it's could me many reasons why the eggs didn't hatch :/

can you imagine the look on their face if they have to ship it back

Unacceptable. It's one thing to mention none hatched and maybe ask for another order if available, but to ask for a refund? No way. Did they seriously file a complaint with eBay? If so, they had better side with you! Your ad was explicitly clear and fortunately, eBay is the number one place to buy hatching eggs online, so they ought to be familiar with how things work; i.e., buy at your own risk/no hatch guarantee. If they side with the buyer I would totally petition for an appeal and those of us who have bought eggs on there can side with you that this is how it works!
