Fertile eggs on ebay

I just had a no hatch on a dozen silver laced orpingtons last week. 2 died around day 16, one quit early and the other 9 were scrambled so don't know how fertile but the eggs were packaged the best I have seen so I believe they must have had a rough ride. Not the sellers fault! I let them know for their own reference but I am expecting nothing, they fulfilled their end of the deal and I accepted the risk.

I sold fertile eggs 3 weeks ago, I also but 10 egg in my incubator and 9 chicks hatch, but the person that got fertile eggs from me shortly after, just contacted me and said non of the eggs I sold him hatched.
he had told me before that he had got 20 eggs from another person and only 2 chick hatch, so I offerd to hatch some chicks for him in my incubator because his incubator is not werrry good :/

so it could also be that the person just didn't have a good incubator, I have one really bad incubator that showed me that the heat in the incubator was fine, but I felt like sometimes the eggs where cold so I took another thermometer and then I saw the incubator was somtimes to hot and some times to cold so I stoped use that that incubator and bought a new one which has been much better, 9 egg out of 10 hatching is really good in my opinion so I'm really happy with that new incubator I got

and also it's always a risk ordering eggs online to so it's could me many reasons why the eggs didn't hatch :/

I always get low hatches and just recently figured out a lot has to do with my altitude, but also, one time when I tried putting a hygrometer and thermometer to check my incubator temp accuracy, sure enough, it was off. That was very nice of you to offer to hatch some chicks for him!

can you imagine the look on their face if they have to ship it back

LOL LOL LOL you guys are too funny! Actually, apparently buyers have tried doing this, I just read an ad earlier today where the guy explicitly said that broken eggs are a biohazard so DO NOT even try to send them back! Like, couldn't they just take a picture? A lot of sellers are doing the $50 insurance option on packages, so if USPS messes up it is up to the recipient to file a claim with the post office if their package is damaged.

Yeah, whenever I ship eggs, that's what I do. It comes free with the $13 flat rate boxes. $50 insurance, I package them with extreme care, after that it's up to the buyer. I'll help them submit a claim with the PO if they need, but that's it TBH. Can't expect anything else.

It'd be one thing if the eggs were packaged poorly. Definitely had that happen before. Got a batch once that the eggs were individually wrapped in bubble wrap (good) but then just sideways loose in a bubble wrap bag in such a way that they could roll around (bad). None were cracked but they were still not packaged well and very few hatched. That's when you start hitting a grey area. Did the seller mess up? Was it just part of the risk? Harder to say.

But then you get pictures or leave a complaint about that. Hatch rate in general is always always on the buyer.

Unacceptable. It's one thing to mention none hatched and maybe ask for another order if available, but to ask for a refund? No way. Did they seriously file a complaint with eBay? If so, they had better side with you! Your ad was explicitly clear and fortunately, eBay is the number one place to buy hatching eggs online, so they ought to be familiar with how things work; i.e., buy at your own risk/no hatch guarantee. If they side with the buyer I would totally petition for an appeal and those of us who have bought eggs on there can side with you that this is how it works!

i pack the eggs tightly. Like if you were to shake the box you hear not one little rattle. I work retail and they let me take home the packing that packages come in so they get the best packaging

Yeah.... They probably had all hatch and want more for free. Or they broke them. You can't trust people these days! You said exactly there is no guaranteed hatch rate.

So he sent a request for a refund for the eggs...it doesn't give me a place to decline but gives me a place to message. I think what i am going to say is "that's sad that they didn't hatch, however i did say that i can't guarantee they hatch. As a one time thing i can ship you out new ones if you are ok with paying for some of the shipping. "

That's very nice of you to ship one out for them, but what a butthole they've been asking for a refund. Wow. They absolutely have to pay for shipping. Every single ebayer who sends replacement eggs always has the person pay for shipping.

Not trying to be rude but just stating the truth and what could happen.
And yes I have bought some very expensive and rare pheasant and quail eggs of of eBay.

I won an auction on EBay almost 3 weeks ago for a dozen eggs. I got 15 eggs packed PERFECTLY, not one cracked or broken.

After they rested then I started them in the bator. At the 6th day I candled. All but ONE was minus an air pocket & no veining. The one was a beautiful example of a fertile developing egg.

I took pics & let the lady know, not asking for anything. I know no one guarantees or CAN guarantee hatch rates. But I also left about 8 of the eggs (the best one & the darker ones I wasn’t 100% sure were bad) in the bator.

Her response to my email was she would ship out another set if I’d pay shipping. I thought that was very gracious of her to offer more eggs. Tomorrow is Day 21. I’ve heard no cheeping & not seen any pips. So I’m guessing not even the one that looked like it was developing stopped.

I have had this happen about 3 or 4 times, except there wasn't a ONE, it was NONE. So yeah, people don't believe this crap, but it HAPPENS all of the time. So people need to stop being so dang hateful especially to the chicken keeping community.
