You could be finding someone to take the extra chicks while they are incubating. I agree too that one or two eggs aren't worth shipping. At least get 6.

One chick is a sad and pathetic thing , sometimes they will die , they are certainnlly loud as they call all night and day for a companion , do two or three.

Also check with your local livestock market. Once a month ours meet to sell chickens. They sell chicks but you will have to buy several, no one sells just one chick. BUT...If you find someone who bought a box of chicks then you can ask if you can buy one or two off of them.

Yea you can't raise just one chick. They may even die from it. Chickens are social and you should always have at least 2. That means you should always set at least 3 eggs (preferably more) since it's rare to get a 100% hatch rate. Shipped eggs your more likely to get only 50% to hatch so you really should get 4+ eggs. If you want a very specific number of chicks buy them already hatched and get at least 2.

What type of incubator did you end up using? I know you had mentioned that you were using a box with a lightbulb?

i was sadly no hatches but the incubator is called "Chick Hatcher" and then it just says how to use it in the instructions

Check in the Hatching eggs section of the Buy ~ Sell ~ Trade of this forum. www.eggbid.com you can also buy hatching eggs from there. or www.ebay.com. i see most eggs being sold in sets of 6 or 12 eggs.
