Fertile or Not Fertiile, Can you Tell?

Marie, I have found it you leave a few eggs on the counter or in a warmer environment for a few days the blastoderm becomes more defined. I have also tested by putting in the incubator for a few days and then cracking them open to make sure. Sometimes it is hard to tell with freshly laid eggs. Good Luck

That is an idea, the cochins are pretty fertile. I will try opening some and see. I did this back when I first got into all this buyt it has been a while since I had to even worry abot fertility. I had several silkie roos but I let them all go when I got this guy. I am thinking now that was a mistake but I wanted him to establish himself as the head roo. Anyway I hope to find that he figured out what to do since shipping yours but we will have to see. And like I told you before, I will be glad to replace the silkie eggs in spring for shipping and will work with anyone else that I sent silkie eggs to as well. I can assure you that I make good on my word and have established a good reputation here so I would not want to jeopardize that. Thanks for all the helpful advice and I will check back.

Marie the eggs you sent me are going on day 4. I'll let you know how they are doing.

Thanks so much, I really appreciate that. I will replace the eggs if they do not do well.

I just wanted to update that I put in about a dozen silkie eggs and that only two were fertile. I looked at the roo today and boy is his vent area covered up with feathers. I think that is the problem. So I will be trimming around it and maybe some of the girls as well. I will see how that goes and keep you posted. Thanks.

I checked my eggs two are marked silkie some are unmarked. The two silkie eggs one is clear and one looks like its good. You sent me 12 eggs I have 8 looking good. Most of these were cochins. But its only day 5 so I'll check again next week.

Well do keep me posted. I hope he is getting the hang of things, but I will be trimming his vent to help things.
