Here we are at the close of day 18.

Folks it looks to me as though the conventional wisdom holds fast.

We set 12 eggs, which I believe 9 were first eggs and 3 were seconds

As of now we have 3 chicks hatched, the earliest hatch has one weak leg, its improving.

the other two are perfect.

one other pipped, second to pip. died in shell.

So far all the eggs that have hatched are among the firsts no seconds.

its two hours into day 19 I'll take a last look before posting this update.

Nothing alerts me.

Maybe I'll can candle them and wrap this up soon.

I challenge you: do this again with birds at week 7, 8, 9, and 10 to find the "sweet spot." (yes, please do all the work for me so I don't have to!)

Ok the final count did not change

Except Wonky leg got himself suffocated by his siblings


Of the remaining eggs (8) 6 were infertile possibly no yolk at all one developed a few days and quit another developed and quit late.

So The convention is valid, unless you're prepared for a 15% hatch rate don't set the first eggs!

Now on to the Pterodacquayl eggs muhahahaha

I'm paying top dollar for bat eggs....
