how will i know if my egg is fertilized or not without cracking it open? i don’t want to eat a baby chick

Do you have a rooster? Most likely yes you will have a fertile egg.
Was your egg incubated by a hen?
If not, then No, there will not be a baby chick inside. It takes a few days for the embryo to develop inside an egg but the hen has to be sitting on top of it.

i have 4 girls that i know of i don’t know the genders i got them unsexed i have 12 total chickens. i am trying to firgure out how i am going to know. they are not laying yet my oldest are 8 weeks.

At the moment you don't have the possibility of that problem, once they start laying, if you don't have a Roo, your not going to have that issue, if you do have a roo, just make sure you collect the eggs everyday so that there isn't the possibility of a chick developing. Short of cracking the egg, I don't know how you could tell, I guess if you know what your looking for you could try candling, but I don't think that would work till after the egg has been in incubation for a week.

You won't need to worry about fertilized eggs until next spring if you have any roosters. You can always get rid of them, chickens do not need a rooster lay an egg. You should start to know around 8 weeks if you have pullets or cockerels. You can always post pictures and ask for help.
Your chicks will start to lay eggs anytime from fall to next spring depending on their breed. What kind of chicks do you have? We all love pictures.

i have 12 right now
