I have 6 hens and I just recently got a rooster and now my kids are freaking out about eating the eggs because they say we’re going to crack one and a baby chick is going to be in one. We collect the eggs everyday so I don’t think that would be a problem. But today I was making them breakfast and cracked an egg that has 2 yolks (they thought it was awesome) but how can I tell if they are fertilized or not?

This thread tells you what to look for.

As long as you collect them daily or try to incubate them it won't be a problem. I like your kids asking questions. At least they are thinking and it creates a learning opportunity.

However (there is always a however) you might get a blood spot or meat spot so it is always a good idea to crack them in a separate container before you add them to anything. Commercial operations electrically candle their eggs before they are sold to the public so their customers don't find surprises in them, but surprises in their eggs or ours aren't that rare. You might look at blood spots and meat spots in this link so you are prepared. These have nothing to do with a rooster.
