I am the treasurer of my chapter. I loved it last year(my first year, was a junior), I always took ag classes but didnt really care for FFA until I found out how fun it seemed. How did some of you become officers in your freshman year? Here you have to be in FFA for a year before running for office. The president of our chapter always treats everyone like they are 5 year olds, then freaks out when something goes wrong because of what she did/didnt do. We have about 90 kids in our chapter and just took in another school that no longer has ag, so we now have 2 chapters in 1.
I have always wondered, are some of the officer parts different in other states? Like the treasurer. [vice pres.] The treasurer [me] stationed at the emblem of Washington [vp] Your duties there [me] I keep a record of receipts and dispursments, just as Washington kept his farm accounts, carefully and acuratly. I encourage thrift among the members and strive to build up our financial standings thru savings and investments. George Washington was better able to serve his country because he was financially independent.
I did soil judging last year and this year. I went to state with soils this year, it is so easy. I also did livestock judging which was ok. When we did ag issues last year, we chose NAIS, half of our group was for it, the other was against it, I was against it. We got 2nd in districts. I also did dairy foods at state which was the only competition we had and I placed 42 out of maybe 100 kids. I went to state convention last year and didnt really care for it, the dorm I was in smelled like human pee and the people next door were loud and noisy.
I think that FFA is great for teaching leadership skills but it is way more strict than 4-H. FFA week was finished up on friday and was fun but crazy.
