FFA

Come on chickman, don't be shy. Let's talk ag!

The plow is a time honored symbol of labor and tillage of the soil. Without labor, neither knowledge or wisdom can accomplish much ____________________________.

Both of my brothers and myself were in the FFA.

Oldest brother was pretty active and won some award for desinging/drafting a hog and cattle feedlot and facilities.

chickman, are you a greenhand this year (first year in ag)?
Don't be embarassed by not being able to fill in the blanks. The smart person is always the one that is smart enough to say "I don't know".

As you can see, I get pumped when we talk about FFA.

Man the good ole days of FFA. I always enjoyed judging from it being soil, (for those that didnt know that yes we actually judged soil) to hogs to even fresh cut and hanging beef. I remember them doing all this name changing from Vocational Agriculture to Agricultural Education. Even got the good old jacket, wish i still have my pins though. Our advisor was pretty decent he just started teaching my freshman year so we took as much advantage of him as possible. Always went to the Farm Machinery show, and National Livestock Show, and we even attended the Farm Progress Show. (that was cool got to drive NEW tractors and test out planters and disc on a farm up in Rochester IN) But of course that was 18 yrs ago too, and I cant remember anything about nothing now, much less the Creed!

I did FFA / Ag. We had a great Ag teacher in school the the SOB's in the school board ran him off. They then brought in a new one for my senior year that wanted the freshmen to do everything because they were new like him. We (seniors) took the position of the school board. He didn't last 6 months. It wouldn't have been as bad but he flat out told us that this was all about the in coming ones because we were all leaving so he wouldn't have us around long anyway. I really liked FFA and Ag just didn't like the way our school handled it.

When I hit the age to be in FFA I was excited til I saw how the animals were treated and it focused alot on intensive farming practices. Plus the whole, castration w/o anesthetic and pain killers was seriously messed up.
I would have loved to be in it if it had focused more on humane farm animal care. Not sure if everyones FFA is like that but ours was pretty undesirable.

What? You talk about them good ole days! Yep, I was on the soil judging team also but that was way back when dirt was real. lol I tried to be on every judging team we had, i.e. soil, grass, dairy, poultry, hogs, etc. You name it, I was on it. And then there was the parlimentary team (Robert's Rules of Order). Man, what memories.
I lived and breathed Voc. Ag. and still do to a large degree. If only we could roll back the clock.
