I think there are morels here in Va but I don't know where to look...and finding a "seasoned forager" is even harder.

I found ours (morels) right in the front yard under a huge pine tree. they grow on river banks on hill sides just about any moist (damp) shaded area. There were more out there yesterday I am picking them today.
 
Ooooh. I know we have ferns on our property but I don't know what variety. Gull-durn it!

Now I wanna try these!

We live close to a lake and have a very high water table on our property. Folks just on the other side of the street are always flooded during rain and in spring when the snow melts. It's like their front yard is one big pond.

I used to pick these and eat them in Alaska and love them. They are also great in soup. We pick them here in MN as well. So if you live in MN they are around here as well! I use them in stir fry or any veggie dish and compare them to asparagus.
