- Common sense. ALL BYC guidelines and rules apply.
- Respect. Notify me when you see violation of rules or a simple mistake, unless you're sure that you know how to resolve the issue. Be firm, but polite; understand that mistakes do happen.
- Inactivity. Please participate; do not join and then never come back again. It's disheartening and quite difficult to manage.*
- Practicality. Be realistic. Your character cannot very easily dodge bullets that are shot at them, and a broken joint cannot magically start functioning again after the use of medicine.
- The medic may be paired/mated, but they are not allowed to have children.
- Please do not play another player's character for them.

- All harpies must have plumage that mimics REAL birds.

- Refrain from off-topic chat in this thread. If you have questions pertinent to roleplay, PM me or post them here.

*Feel free to notify me if you must leave for a period of time.

- You may not instantly kill a character, whether played by another player or not.
- Play fair and be realistically strong and fast. These are lithe creatures but they cannot dodge every move, and they may be strong but they cannot be hit and not take damage.
- You may not instantly recover from a fatal wound.
- No suddenly creating new characters to pop out of nowhere and assist. Use what character(s) you already have until war is over.

- No magic. Just because they’re flying bird people doesn’t mean that this roleplay should not hold any sense of realism.

It all started with the fantasy of an experienced geneticist. A fantasy, that - as soon as the
government had heard - soon became a goal.

Somewhere tucked away in the remote desert was a government facility where tests were being done on human beings to improve them. They had a plan in mind, though: to create a secret weapon; soldiers that could fly without planes. These humans, with the torso and head of a human, graced with the wings, tails, and talons of birds, became a project known to these specialists as ‘Project harpy’, due to the mythical creature by the same name from which they were mostly modeled after.

The harpies were born and raised in the facility, treated like any other human child, and taught in a quiet, public school-like environment. They lived a sheltered life; secluded from any human civilization. The facility was all that they knew their whole lives, and they rarely questioned why they were never allowed to leave. The answer was always the same, sometimes even with a sharp reprimand: “The world is too dangerous. You will be let out when you’re old enough.”

One afternoon, during their last semester, a young adult harpy by the name of Marshall questioned why they were being taught these things, and when he finally prodded enough to get the honest answer, it was not an answer he could take. He wanted more purpose for his life. He wanted choices, and he wanted freedom. With that, he convinced the other harpies to join him in his rebellion and escape. With careful planning, they eventually broke loose, and now reside in the mountains. From that day forward, Marshall became an important figure in their history that they look up to.

The territory consists of the entirety of the rocky mountain range, which spans all the way from British Columbia in Canada, through the United states to New Mexico. Canadian officials keep a close watch on their borders, so the creatures tend to avoid that area when possible.

The weather up here is cold, with snow dotting the range and coating some of the higher peaks. They have resorted to wearing animal pelts during times when their feathers and leather clothing are not enough. Extremist activists want to rid the mountains of these creatures because they believe they are encroaching on species that are endangered in the area, such as wolves and bears, because they hunt similar prey items and sometimes kill the predators for their woolly pelts. This, combined with local hunters and poachers, makes life in the mountains an adventure not for the faint of heart.

Leader:

Aiden: Nephew of Marshall, and thus respected for his bloodline as if it were royalty; Aiden is the leader of the harpy flock. With the plumage of a Blyth’s Hawk-eagle, his wings are white with bold black barring, and his headfeathers are solid ebony. His headfeathers are short, pointed, and seem to be combed forward in a wild, slightly spiked style in the front. He has prominent talons on large, powerful feet. He was born and raised within the flock and was voted leader at the age of nineteen. Aiden is the quiet, sentimental type. Underneath a seemingly stoic shell, Aiden cares deeply about the safety and happiness of his flock and will do anything in his power to ensure that. Besides enjoying the luxuries and privileges of his position, Aiden is glad to be the leader because of a slight ‘control freak’ nature that he tries to keep hidden. He cannot tolerate disorder and chaos. BirdNut

Council:

Caelius: Caelius's plumage is stunning, with azure wings, dark neck and chest feathering; blue wafting, coppery tail and two long, black feather streamers. He is of a smaller build than most, leaner and more delicate of feature. Turquoise-tinted raven hair falls past his shoulders, and his eyes are a deep coal-black. Of average height for his people, his sooty gray legs end in long, slender-toed feet; meant for perching and tight landings, rather than clawing or tearing. Caelius was one of the original group that first fled the labs. Quite young at the time, he remembers little of it. Recently elected to the council, he has served there since. Caelius tends to throw caution to the wind when on his own, but he takes great strides to avoid danger when others are in his care. He is generally mild in temperament, rarely impatient and not one to explode in rage. Despite coming off as a rather impassive and sarcastic man, he is usually found to be more understanding than most; willing to use his time teaching and helping others. He enjoys both solitude and company alike, but he is not the best at casual conversation. Direct with his questions, tact is not one of his strong points. Gerbil

Marcello: A tall, muscular man with inky black wings and long, wickedly sharp talons. He has the cunning, clever nature of the Raven and possesses a dry sense of humour and sarcastic wit. Though he is a member of the council, his methods are sometimes considered unorthodox. He doesn’t always follow their orders if he believes there is a better solution to a problem. This defiance makes him unpredictable, but his skill and talent in the air and on the ground make him a highly respected member of the community. He is kind, wise and patient, preferring to resolve disputes without engaging in a fight. Hollybird24

-Third council spot reserved, no longer accepting members for this rank-

Medic:

Aveline: Avaline's colors range in browns, whites and shades of gray. Black bars the under side of her wings, chest and belly. Her hair is pitch black, although two streaks of copper-gold run through it, which she usually keeps in braids. Wicked claws tip her golden feet and hands, and her wrists are adorned with bracelets of varying colors. Black stones hang from both of her ears, and a strange tattoo is just visible at her collar line. And while her features are not as delicate or feminine as most, she still has a rough beauty about her, with silvery-yellow eyes and a ready smile. She is rebellious and steadfast in all of her opinions and decisions. She is generally an optimistic realist, although when in a bad mood she tends to become more of a pessimist, to say the least. Her caring side is rarely seen, and seldom used outside of her Medic duty. Gerbil

Guardians:

Phoenix: A tall, slender girl with dark hair that hangs just passed her shoulders that she often keeps drawn up into a ponytail. Her eyes are a piercing, fiery golden-amber color. Her name was given to her because of her flame-like colors. She has magnificent, golden and red colored wings that form a wingspan of about 15 feet. She has wickedly sharp talons, and her tail is about the same color as her wings. She is a fast and agile flier, strong enough to carry heavy loads through the air. Her personality is fiery and energetic, easily irritated and not fond of people who challenge her or attempt to present any amount of authority over her. Her previous family kicked her out early and dubbed her to be "uncontrollable". She is very confident in her abilities, sometimes a bit overconfident, and will rarely, if ever, give in to anyone. Because of a troubling childhood, she rarely trusts anyone besides herself and is very independent. Despite this attitude, she is known to form unique bonds with people who she is close to and develops an extreme sense of protectiveness over them. Hollybird24

Damian: Damian is tall and burly in build, with wings that are like those of a red tail hawk; brown, with white and beige thrown in here and there. His wing span is larger than most. He has a very stern look about him. In a few words, Damian is determined and strong, but naive. His brother is Richard. Chickendiva25

Vita: Everything about Vita resembles a crow. From her long, stick straight black hair, to her jagged black wings and tail feathers. Both her feathers and her hair have a beetle-green sheen. Her talons aren't extremely sharp like many of the other harpies, but she knows how to use them extremely well. Vita is very quiet, and she rarely ever talks, so not many know if she can or cannot. Little else is known about her. Chickendiva25

Aydene: Tall and well muscled, with sun-tanned skin, Aydene possesses the stunning black-speckled white plumage of the Snowy Owl, as well as its hooked talons and large wingspan. He has shaggy black hair that often covers his yellow eyes. Aydene is fiercely loyal to his leaders. He is very much devoted to the safety of every member in his community; he is the type to do anything for his flock, even if that does mean sacrificing his own life. Zinnia-Hen

Gatherers:

Richard: Richard is similar in appearance to Damian, but his wing span is much smaller, and his talons are not quite as sharp. Richard always has a thoughtful expression on his face, as though he is constantly thinking something over very, very hard. His eyes are a bright yellow. He's the kind of person who is dying to be heard, who longs to have his opinion listened to. He just has trouble delivering his voice because of his fear of saying something stupid. He wishes to see the outside world someday. Chickendiva25

Hally: With short black hair and dull feathers of muted green, Hally is fairly average in appearance. She’s quite short for her age, and tends to disappear behind things easily. She has the tendency to go over the top sometimes. She has collected a lot of things about the outside world during her years at the facility. Northwind

Keiko: Light brown hair, with the wings of a Snowy Mallard. She’s small, and she likes to be in trees. Agility is her strongest point, so she often takes advantage of that in a battle. She is usually friendly, but not always, because her temper flies easily, and first impressions are important to her. She is shy, but she warms up to people easily. She has powerful wings, but usually prefers using her feet and just wings for balance. CochinBrahmaLover

Mothers:

Jocelyn: Jocelyn has very feminine and gentle features. Her hair is a rich brown, like freshly turned soil, with a few bright yellow highlights. It falls to about her shoulder blades, though normally she keeps it in a very loose braid. Her wings and tail feathers, which are somewhat shorter than the others, resemble the feathers of an American Yellow warbler; a stunning yellow, with smoky gray stripes that point diagonally towards her body. Her tan skin, soft smile, and glittering black eyes give her a very motherly appearance. Jocelyn's personality and appearance are one in the same; gentle, sweet, soft, and motherly. She tends to be overly protective over the children in the flock, especially Reese. Chickendiva25

Britannia: A slender young mother - or, fostering mother, rather - whose feathers resemble that of a Bald Eagle. She has long, sleek white hair that hangs far past her shoulders, powerful dark brown wings, and keen hazel eyes. A kind, ruby-lipped smile often adorns her face. Britannia is a caring soul who enjoys her place in the flock. She enjoys helping those in need, and is hardly ever rude or sharp tounged with her loved ones. Along the way to mountains where she had heard tales of other harpies residing at, she scooped up Ciara, who was at the brink of death, and nursed her back to health. She is now currently her adoptive mother. Zinnia-Hen

Children:

Reese: Reese, is very lean - or, as Jocelyn says, ‘resembles a string bean’ - even though she has a large appetite. She has fiery red hair cut in a cute little bob that reaches the top of her neck, and bangs that nearly cover her large innocent blue eyes. Though still growing in, her wings are already starting to turn bright blue, and are beginning to push out the soft gray down. Reese's talons are very dull at the moment. Because of her size Reese can fly very swiftly and very quietly through the air. Reese is very bold, just like her fiery hair. Her attitude is always looking up, always happy, always cheerful. Some find it hard to believe that so much happiness could be kept into such a little body. She is a very good singer. Chickendiva25

Ciara: For a child of only ten years, Ciara is quite tall and thin, with waved, flowing hair of pale blonde, in addition to fair skin. Her canary-like wings are much like the color of her hair, although the yellow infused into her feathers seems to be more jarring. Along her left arm and right leg, as well as through her whole left side, are fang inflicted scars. She is fairly shy and tends to stick with her adoptive mother, Britannia. She is also afraid of being alone and can be quite sensitive at times. While walking around the forest with her older sister at the age of nine, the already orphaned Ciara encountered a wolf attack. Her sister, who was only two years older than her at the time, tried her best to fend off the beast while Ciara ran. Unfortunately her sister was killed in the process and the wolf went after the little girl, who had tripped and fallen on a large pile of rocks by a river bank as she tried to flee. Being already injured, she was an easy target. After playing dead she was dragged away and left to die at the foot of a mountain. She was later discovered by Britannia and nursed back to health. Rather than referring to Britannia as her mother, Ciara calls the young woman her big sister and feels quite thankful to have a hero. Zinnia-Hen

I'm joining. Good to have a new idea going round. It might even start me RPing again, even though that particular goal has failed several times. lol
