Hi All

We recently had a free roaming, but very tame Peahen adopt our family on our ranch.

The whole family loves her, and she is incredibly sweet and tame (probably someone's pet at some point), but we don't know how to keep her safe.

Does anyone have advice for setting up roosting boxes or the like for a bird like this?

Thanks in advance and all the best

Will

We had a peahen show up last year, they do need companions. Professor, as we have named her, spent the nights roosting in the trees, even through some pretty awful windstorms and the ice and snow we get Jan - March, which comes and goes in NC. Because we did not get other peacocks for her to keep her on the farm this spring she traveled down to the heron rookery. She seems to come back daily to eat and check the place out. Because she has had little human contact she has lost some of her trust in humans. I am hoping she comes back to stay when they leave this month.

Professor has created a craving for more peacocks, their building will be delivered next week. I will need to finish off the building and add the yard. Then hope I can still find someone who still has a pair for sale.

Thank both of you for the advice and sharing your story.

Dutches Cassopia (my wife came up with the name and we think it suits her :), disappeared day before yesterday.

I searched for her everywhere but came up empty-handed. No sign of features or anything either though at least.

Perhaps local fireworks scared her.

Hoping she comes back soon, but she may have wandered on to look for more Peafowl

I guess as noted by KsKingBee a box for her doesn't make much sense, as she wanders and couldn't be assured to sleep in it.

Fingers crossed she is alright and comes back soon. Lots of predators in our area.

All the best

Will
