6 pips, still no breakthroughs. It's been 12 hours since the first pip, and there has been no change with that one...

Can you see them breathing or moving? I had 3 Muscovey eggs that I had to help hatch back in April. They were all able to pip but couldn't get out. I interveined after about 48 hours of no progress. I could see and hear the babies in the eggs.. they just couldn't get out. I closed myself in the bathroom and turned the shower on very hot to steam up the room really really well. Once I opened the bator i worked quickly and only broke away small amounts of the shell. I broke the shells about 1/3 of the way around and put them back. Waited another 6-10 hours to see if they could progress at all on their own. When they couldn't, I hatched them out myself. I figured they would have NO chance if I didn't help. WELL.. they all three ended up living and doing ok even though 1 was a little weird at first. Couldn't lift his head up. Like his neck was strained from trying to get out. Anyway.. IF you decide to help stop immediately if you see any blood. That means they aren't ready yet.. GOOD LUCK! I'll be thinking about you

We now have 8 that have pipped, but no breakthroughs. It's been 20 hours since the first one pipped... I was told that it can take 24 or sometimes longer for a duck to zip after pipping. I'll give him a while longer.

that should do it fine then just give them a little more time
its no fun waiting for something to happen but they will come out of there shell when they are ready to

I candled last night and found three probable late quitters: one EE egg, one cochin, and one pea egg. I'm leaving them in there for now, but will probably pull the pea egg tomorrow at lockdown because it's looked questionable for several days. So far, at least, the statistics are a lot better than before! But the eggs in one section, although lively, look like they're two or three days delayed in development. This darned incubator and its temperature issues . . . . The moment of truth will be day 21!

LOCKDOWN!! for the chicks. Started this whole thing with 26 eggs. Had a quitter at day 4, another at day 10, and 2 more at day 15. That leaves me with 22 eggs. Just candled them all, and they all look good...moving, air cells, etc.. Now, I wait.

What happened with your rescued ducks????????

I ended up making another hatcher. The ducklings are taking their sweet time in hatching. The first one pipped yesterday morning, just a crack in the egg, and hasn't done anything else since. 9 hours later the second one pipped, and throughout the night 7 more pipped. The 10th one just pipped about an hour ago. They all just have a crack in the shell, though 2 have 2 cracks now. The waiting is HARD!
