Sure, Join the party! This is my first hatch. I put together a homemade incubator. We started with 26 eggs, but had one quitter at around day 3 or 4, but the remaining 25 look like they are developing fine. I set the eggs on Thursday June 2 at 10 a.m.... so if I count thursday as day 1, I'm on day 12 now.

Welcome, Barrdwing!

I set 27 eggs on Friday, June 3, so I'm saying I'm on day 10. In a few hours, I'll be halfway there!

I set 12 mottled bantam cochins that aren't doing great. Several infertile and several displaced air cells from shipping. But 4 are developing for sure and 1 is a "probable". The other 15 are wheaten marans that were wonderfuly packed and seemed to have faired shipping well, but they are *so* dark that I can't see much other than that there is something in there in all of them, so I'm considering them all good for now.

What kind of eggs are yours?

well this isent a good thing but im glad i caught it fast grand kids were here tonight and looks like they put the plugs in my incubator and turned the temp up i caught this within 15 mins so i know the core temps didnt get a chance to go up but my temp was up to 103 and it was still on to climb higher i pulled the cover off for a few secs to cool it back dow to 99 then got the temp reset hopefully it didnt hurt them

hudsonnascarfan, I bet the higher temperature for that short a period of time didn't do any harm. Hang in there! And tell the grandkids they won't have any little chickies to cuddle if they keep messing with the bator!

Thanks stitch81 and Taylorhens for the welcomes!

I started out with 16 EE eggs, 7 bantam cochins, and 7 Icelandics. The cochins are kind of mutts: partridge hens with either a buff bantam cochin roo, or one of the laying flock roos (Andalusian crosses or a Phoenix). When I candled them on day 9, there were 6 clears and 3 blood rings; the rest looked good. That's left us with 4 Icelandics, 14 EEs, and 3 cochins ticking along. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

There are also seven peafowl eggs in there, from our flock of India Blues/split to white. They're all at different stages, and I'm going nuts trying to balance the humidity needs of the chicken eggs with those of the peafowl eggs old enough for lockdown. One of them has an internal pip tonight.

I'm working with a Brower Top Hatch which is trying to give me a nervous breakdown. Earlier today it was holding around 95 degrees, and this evening it spiked past 105.7!

I'll re-candle at lockdown, since last hatch I lost a lot of eggs between day 10 and lockdown. I'm learning a lot about what temperature changes eggs can and can not endure, that's for sure.

I'm going to be joining the party. I set 30 mutts of various varieties as well as a dozen birchen Marans and BCMs on the 4th. This is my first hatch as well and the candling is driving me crazy as the eggs are too dark and my torch just isn't cutting it. Should be interesting in the upcoming days. I'm still

as some of the eggs are shipped and I'm just going to have to wait and see how it goes!

I just candled and I don't think there are any good signs of life in there. It is day 7 and all I see is rings and yolks. I don't really know what to look for but i think i did it all wrong.

maybe candle one more time on day 10 before you give up? i know how you feel, my first try was 9 clears and 2 rings. my second try is going much much better. don't give up on hatching! there is nothing like the feeling you get when you see your first little swimmer in that egg!

Oh my gosh! Just candled two minorca eggs and there are VEINS! I can't see very well in the "Shay's barnyard mix" eggs, so I'll have to either wait for another day, or wait till I come home at 1am after work. I can't wait for the 2nd-4th of July! That's when all hatching is to commence!
