I am so excited... my BCM just started laying, so i have every color i wanted ... (missing my nicely speckled welsummer and pretty dark cuckoo marans eggs in this shot though!).

as a side note, that top right greenish speckled egg is from a "true pure bred blue ameraucana" from my pet chicken

... pretty sure the eggs are not supposed to be green for ameraucanas... though she does look like a real specimen. oh well. I actually love that egg!

i have japanese bantam, silkie, campine, blue andalusion, BCM, barnevelder, red comet, lavender orpington, silver laced wyandotte, EE standard and bantam in this photo

eager to see your eggs too...!

Gorgeous! I'll just have a brown variety egg basket (Buff Orpington, RIR, Australorp, and Cuckoo Marans - only the BO is laying right now), so I'll just live vicariously through this thread.

You know, i was very pleasantly surprised by the brown shade of my cuckoo marans, it is a nice rich brown, it will give you a nice contrast vs the orpingtons! But come on... you need an easter egger in there!

I really wanted one when we got our chicks from our local Wilco, but someone had reserved the whole lot of them.

We have very limited space, and although we can have up to 6 chickens, our yard is more suited for 4. I plan to get some on the next go 'round, though!

And I can't wait to see what the Marans will lay! My flock is just over 21 weeks, and she'll probably be the last to lay.

I would love to have some Americanas or EEs, just to have some pretty blue/green eggs... I do have 'future flock plans' to get a small flock of white-, brown-, chocolate- and colored- egg layers for some rainbow eggs!

Sounds like your "Ameraucana"--isn't. But since you got it from MPC, I'm not surprised. I don't think there are any hatcheries that really sell Ameraucanas. Meyer hatchery has actually stopped calling theirs Ameraucanas and started calling them Easter Eggers, so good for them. I saw several catalogs this year that had "Not for 4-H" or "Not for Showing" next to the descriptions of their "Ameraucanas/Araucanas," so it's clear they know they're not selling the real thing. OTOH, that is a WONDERFUL egg!

I really need some Marans. grumble grumble grumble
