As a Prius owner, been buying them since 2003, I totally agree.
I rarely drive our Tundra 4-wd; it's for getting through snow to get out our 1/3 mile driveway and bringing chicken coop building materials from Home Depot.

Here's how all programs of this nature work:

The government punishes success by taxing the middle and upper classes. They take a 50% cut to fund their bureaucracy. With the other 50%, they subsidize failure. In return, the welfare class votes for them.

If you rob Peter to pay Paul, Paul will vote for you.

Mad props to Oblio!

Last I checked , the redistribution of wealth was a socialist idea and does not work except to depress an economy.

Bad idea. How about funding some research for alternatives? Make those more affordable to us average joes? True sustainability and energy independence? Those are ideas I don't mind putting my tax dollars toward. By the way, drilling for "our own oil" is also a hideous idea. It would only buy us myabe 70-ish years of energy "indpendence". And then what? No thanks, I'm not really interested in selling my son's (or any children he might like to have) future so we can stick our fingers in our ears and go "la la la" for the next several decades. It's not "ours", it's our kid's future (and the future of this planet).

We've been a severly short-sighted nation for far too long. Let gas get more expensive. Maybe we'll wake up.

I'm all for alternative energy...Bring On the Nuclear Power! At least we could stop burning fossil fuels for electricity and home heating. And I'm not saying stop looking for alternative ways to run cars, but we need to do something to bring the price of gas down in the meantime, so lets quit giving our money to other countries and develop our own oil fields.

A car that burns Hydrogen would be great (H2 + O2 can only equal H2O), but we would have to put a whole new infrastructure in place and that will take time.

Drilling our own oil will be an investement in our kids (OK your kids since I don't have any) future as it will allow us to stop having to bow down to countries that support terrorism, the degredation of women, genocide, etc. We have the ability to remove the oil in a much more eco-friendly manner than is currently practiced. Jobs will be made in our country not others. Oh heck, I could go on.

We need to start doing something about the rising fuel prices. Everybody keeps warning us and saying that they will keep rising. It is a bunch of crap, because they arent doing anything about it. Start drilling our own oil, find alternate resources to use.

McCain for President!

well said.

My DH was telling me he read that it cost about $20 to produce a barrel of oil and that typically oil has only cost 3 times the manufacturing pricing, meaning oil should be somewhere around $60 a barrel. I doubt the oil companies are hurting.

What about wind power? I don't understand the anti-wind power stance that seems to be prevalent in this country. Paint the towers green and some city people won't know they aren't trees.

Anyway, they will find a way to tax for reimbursing people for millage. Last thing we need is more tax.
