Backstory: I ordered 8 FBCM eggs off of eBay. None hatched. I asked the seller if she could send me more. She sent six more free of charge (except shipping). Only one hatched, and the poor thing was struggling for so long that I felt compelled to help it.
I seriously didn’t think it was going to make it, but after a few days, it finally could hold itself up on its own.
We lovingly hand-raised it. I had it in my lap (on a towel) practically every evening. Our little 4 pound chiweenie was enamored of it.
It got big enough to go in the run with momma BO and her mongrel cockerel, but as it grew up, the day came when I noticed the saddle feathers. Crap! Crap! Crap!
Already bonded. Ain’t killing it!
This guy has turned into the most entertaining chicken I’ve ever owned. When he was a cockerel, I would let him out of the run to free-range while I smoke a Macanudo maduro. Always, some strange noise would scare him, and he’d do that awkward Napolean Dynamite run back to me. He was a complete spastic.
He hasn’t grown into his pointy spurs yet, but he definitely was the alpha rooster among the five light Sussex rooster he lived with. Incidentally, I was able to re-home three of the five. One I kept and one I made into chicken and dumplings.
He’s so funny. Does a mating dance up against me evey time I enter the run. No aggression, just romance in his rooster way.
