Finally coming out from behind the bushes, i'm ready for help!

That's what I was thinking too... The Australorp is what I keep going to, I just wasn't sure because it looks a little different and I wasn't sure if the dark spots on the side of it's head were a sign of another chicken. It is the most daring chicken... always has been. Anytime I come around it is right out to see what i'm doing... it jumps right up on the side of the pen to look at me (and my 6 month old son) it gets out and walks around... it's just generally a very busy and curious bird, which makes me think rooster (right?)

I have been bouncing back and forth between Cochin and Brahma with the others... I just can't figure it out.
Behavior at such a young age is a very unreliable way to sex them. They're all just trying to figure out the world, their flock, and their place in it

I did pull those out (a friend gave me a couple) and he told me to not even think about it... he'll come around after I get our 3 year old excited about it and have her tell him about the "science experiment" we're going to do.
My husband built my first coop...and then my second. When I needed a third I bought a prefab and put it together myself. He just wasn't enthused yet. Now, in our 4th year of chicken keeping, he is talking about the large coop he is going to build in the spring. :love At first they think we're crazy, and then they get good eggs, and then they start realizing how entertaining the chickens are, and before you know it, they are coming up with their own ideas! :lau A couple years from now your DH may be pulling that incubator out and asking, why are we buying chicks when we can make our own? :old

I'm the rare crazy chicken hubby. My DW thought the chicks were cute and all and secretly likes them more than she'll admit, but this morning when the rooster was going psycho about the new dust bath I set up in the middle of the night...she was not a fan

I can't get my chickens to use the dust bath I made... Not sure what I did wrong. I used wood ashes (about 1/3) and then dirt

as long as there is dirt they will make their own, the did like the time I planted the garden in the kiddie pool with just gardening soil, for ease after an injury to back, they ate all the vegetables as they came up and turned it into their own personal dust bath lol

Yeah I used a kiddie pool and made their dust bath way bigger than the old one. This morning they were not very sure about it lol.
