My partner and I have spent most of this week constructing a run and house for my 2 babies, They will still have the run of the garden when we are at home but I wanted them to be safe whilst we were at work, especially in the winter when it gets dark early. We are in the UK so major threat is foxes, hopefully this will keep them safe. Its their first night out tonight and I have just shut them in the house, they are peeping at me and breaking my heart but I know they will get used to it soon. The run is 12ft x 6ft so hopefully plenty of room for them.

Also, they are 10 weeks old know and I still havn't a clue what breed they are, any guesses now they are a bit older?

I love it, it looks very secure. They'll miss their mommie for a few nights but I'm sure they will love their new abode. As for breed, maybe Pekin? Don't see a latch on the outside door into their house. ?

Others have said Pekins and the shop we got them from said they were Aylesbury's, I know they tend to cross the 2 breeds a lot here in the UK but I thought they were a bit small for either of these? What age do they stop growing?
There isn't a latch...yet, something I only thought of when I put them to bed, the duck house is incredibly heavy and takes 2 of us to move it, I can't budge it on my own, I also intend shutting them in at night so if something gets into the run hopefully they still won't get access to the house.

Could something open the door? looks very well made.

The door to the run is solid, latches are top and bottom. I would love to say we made the whole thing from scratch but we bought the run in segments and put it together, this actually worked out cheaper than what we could make the panels for. The hard work really was the patio itself which needed levelling, relaying and building steps up to it. I had a weeks holiday but the other half was at work so I laid 40 slabs and built 2 retaining walls, I must be mad!

you done alot of work there cool

funny you mention the cost

i looked into runs and found that building was cheaper for me then buying and build my run panels myself

and the satisfing thing is everyone that comes to my home and see's them asks that one question

did i buy the panels and then they see the leftover roll of galv mesh and beleive me when i say i made them myself

I found it odd that it was cheaper for us to buy ready made, praps I was looking in the wrong stores. The major thing cost wise was the wire to be honest and only because I insisted we have the gauge recommended for dog kennels just in case we have a visit from a particularly persistent fox! Buying that separately in panels would have cost almost as much as the whole run! To be honest I think the other half was happy too, he does really long hours at work and would have struggled to make the panels as well as put the whole thing together, I'm useless with making things, slabs I can lay but give me a piece of wood, saw and screws and I'm heading for disaster!
