Hi everyone! My name is Mary and I'm a nurse living in Norfolk Ontario Canada with my family of four. I've never had chickens before, but I've been begging my husband to let me get some for the past six years! He finally caved yesterday, so I jumped on the opportunity and brought home six chicks before he changed his mind. They're a backyard mix, so I have no idea what I have, but hopefully it'll be more obvious in the next few weeks.
We are really excited to start producing our own eggs, we eat them every day. I'm also looking forward to my kids taking on some more responsibilities by helping with them, they are four and six years old. I found the BYC website a couple years ago and have been lurking, I've been super jealous of your flocks and couldn't wait to start my own.
Life has been a bit crazy as I work in a large hospital in a city with a population of approximately 600,000 people. We've had a pretty significant hit of COVID-19 positive patients, luckily no nurses or doctors on my unit have tested positive which shows our infection control practices have been spot on. This is a good time to get these birds and a coop going, it'll be a nice distraction from all the negativity/stress going on right now.
