Finally, got some chickens again..

Thank you! We're just waiting out the rain now, then off to the market to see what else their seller has in store today. Ah, chicken math... LOL I'm hoping he'll have another Silver Leghorn today.

I need a roo!

awwww what roo are u on the lookout for???? I am wondering if you give your landlord eggs if he wouldnt mind more chickens LOL

I'm looking for a Silver Leghorn roo. Went and spoke to the guy I bought them from and he said if you X a white and brown leghorn you sometimes get Silver ones? I'm going to read a bit and see what I can find out about that or ask someone here who knows about Leghorns.
I vowed not to buy another chicken unless it's a leghorn that I can use for breeding, but then the guy handed me this cute white one and DH stuck his nose into a crate full of bantams and this little "White Java Bantam" started talking to him... Sorry not the greatest pic, I couldn't get them to come out.

An emergency dash to the hardware store followed to buy some materials to expand the run area as it's getting a bit over crowded in there now....

DH did good with his little bantam though as she laid an egg within an hour of arriving..

I strolled through the rest of the market stalls to see what's for sale and found another chicken. I can see it's a roo, but does anyone have any idea about breed?

(I just bought it to wind up my DH - he's telling me I'm filling the house with chicken stuff after I bought 2 mugs and a tiny little ornament) That'll teach him.

I've done some research into Java chickens, more specifically white Java chickens. According to the websites I looked at they are quite rare, especially the white ones. And we bought her at a market?? I wish I looked at them earlier, so I can go ask that guy what's up. Only thing I can think of is that he's a hobby breeder of popular and rare breeds

I'll have to wait 'till next Friday... And try not to buy more chickens while I'm there LOL

oh look how pretty the mottled are too! cool... but I adore the blacks, remind me of my jersey giants

Beautiful Chickens! x

Sumi what kind of farm are you living on?
Cattle, both our landlord and the neighbour, who also rents from our landlord has a few cows. They don't milk them, unfortunately. They breed them and sell them for meat. Or landlord suggested we get some sheep. And put them where? I need all the space I've got for chickens LOL. And I'd rather get a goat for milking anyway.
I really need some roosters... and then an incubator. I saw a stunning roo at market today, can't remember what breeds X'd but a lovely boy
