Finally got to see our new Daylilly today.

I absolutely LOVE day lilies! That's on my bucket list: to work on hybridizing some of them. I really like the frills, and think your #2 parent is gorgeous. Are they Diploid, or Tetraploid? Know any thing about working with the latter?

To enter into my gardens, a day lily must be: fragrant, frilly, not overly tall, re-bloomer, not yellow or orange (resembling the wild types), have a picotee edge or a "knock your socks off" eye zone. Any combination of these traits get me salivating, and carressing my credit card. But, alas, I've kind of run out of room!

They are pretty much impervious to disease and insect pests in my area.
What do you mean by a re bloomer?
And daylilies are chicken resistant. :D

Wow. How do you store the seeds? I have some tiger lilies that have triple blooms and I really want to make more of them.
I watch for the first crack in a seed pod. I know then the seed is mature enough to pick. I place them in a window for a couple days to complete the open process. once we have the seed we put them in a freezer bag with white rice just encase any moister is present and place them in a cool dry place for the winter. about 50 to 55 degrees.

I’ll have to try that this year.

Now comes the hard part. It will take up to a year to get this new one registered and approved to become a new flower. Thank goodness these two pollen parent and seed parent are already registered at "Bear Daylily Farm" So, half the work is already done. Going to call this one "Donna Girl" .
OMG! It's GORGEOUS! LOVE the swirls! So, once you get it registered and patented and "breeding true," are you gonna give us poor BYCers first dibs on your new babies? Donna Girl looks like a custom fit for my yard!

They are both registered Diploid. I have both but almost always have better luck first thing in the morning with the Diploids. I have one one new success story with Tetraploids.
I will down load a flower I think you will like.. this one is called "Space coster"

Try going up! Have you ever seen the terraced strawberry gardens, where they end up looking like a pyramid? I've always wanted to try one of those with daylilies. It would look like a cascading day-lily tree. I want one, but I'm afraid of Maryland winters and the sudden, deep cold dips. One of these days, I'm gonna DO it!

A rebloomer will bloom and then take a rest for a few weeks and then bloom again before the season is complete. Some flowers spend all their energy once and usually produce a bigger showier flower and they are done for the season.
