So glad it made it through the night. if you have anymore weak ones you can offer Save a Chick or Poultry Nutri drench in their waterer it really helps to give them a boost. some even use gator aid. I'd say your going to have to look for an appliance box to hold all your ducklings in. So excited that so many have made it. Are you giving any back to mamas to hatch?Up to seven. Yesterday evening, we added a third black Swedish and a blue Swedish:
I'm going to have to move up to the larger brooder. There are still 31 live eggs in the incubator.
I thought we were going to lose one of the blacks. It was extremely weak and spent the whole day flopped on its side with its eyes closed, peeping raspily. By the time I went to bed, it looked terrible, but this morning, it was fluffed out and alert.
I know it's a hard decision, last year one of our Muscovies tried her best to motally wound one of her ducklings when he hatched and kept shoving him out of the nest box, so I ended up bringing him into the house the other duckling died in the shell, This year I let her sit again knowing full well I might have to intervene, she did a great job. You just never know. I hope the rest of your hatch goes great, looking forward to seeing pics of all the lil ducklings. I think you may have met your goal with the ones still to come.We did try that, but the results were bad. They kept kicking out eggs that were close to hatching and when two did hatch, we found the ducklings dead outside the nests. The nests are now boxed, are not shared, and the drakes don't have access, so I'm not sure what the problem is.
Our target for the year is 12 ducklings. If we get to that number and still have eggs, I will probably experiment with giving some more back to the ducks. Right now, I don't trust them.
They are so cute. maybe you should raise the lamp up some if they are panting. Over heating can cause complications. Duck TV at it's finest.Today's duckling update:
It is hard to tell in the picture, but we're up to eight. Another black Swedish hatched yesterday. We moved them into a much larger container, dubbed the "duckquarium" because it is clear. The dogs have spent the entire day staring at them.
Here they are all piled up at the hot end of the brooder, panting, even though they now have a much larger area to roam around in.
