[1.) I've already decided what chickens i want but it was a tough decision: 1 BR, 1 RIR, 1 EE, 1 Australorp, 1 Buff Brahma, 2 White Silkies, and 2 Golden Sebrights (1 hen 1 roo). What are your experiences with these breeds? I've read a lot about sebrights and I DEFINITELY want one :]. I plan on showing some of them because i've been in 4H before and i really enjoyed it. Also what are the roos like for sebrights? Are they loud?

I have RIR's and a EE. The rirs are really good layers and are nice most of the time. Some days they can be a little mean. So far the EE is really calm, she hasn't started laying yet.

2.) The coop that i plan on building is going to be a two story coop. I've seen your Coop section and I love all the designs. I have seen two story coops that have the bottom part open or both open, but what if both levels were closed? Almost like a house maybe? I'm going to have windows on both levels for ventilation. I might build a small 3x3 coop next to it for my sebright pair.

Will they have a run? That would be ok has long as they have a run or can free range.

3.)This may not be good, but we have our grass treated with fertilizer and pesticides about 5 times a year. I read another post about how thats not good but i love chickens too much T_T Any advice here?

You can keep them locked up till a heavy rains comes and washes the fertilizer away or use some kind of organic fertilizer. We put round up on our drive way and still let the chickens out.

4.)I want to order my chicks from My Pet Chicken, would u reccomend this hatchery? I'm just worried that they won't have what I want/need at the same time =/

I order from them, they have great customer service. I got all the breeds I wanted and got the right number of roosters and hens. They all made it to the post office alive and are getting ready to lay.

Good luck!!!

yes they will have a run

also about the EE, my neighbor just got four chickens a while ago and had an EE/Ameraucana and it would peck at the other hens' combs. is that normal? he got it as an adult but didn't bother to acclimate them together and now two of the other hens have most of their combs picked off. was that just the behavior of that particular chicken or will all be like that?

We're so excited for you! I would definitely get at least 2 of each breed. A lot of times the breeds like to hang together.
If you get them as chicks you shouldn't have too much fighting.

As far as the coop..Sounds great! But...the pesticides will have to go if you free range (let them out of the run). They will eat the bugs in the yard so you won't need the pesticides.

In my opinion, you should get lots of silkies!

thanks! i'm excited too and i'd love to get two of each but i can only have under ten since we don't have much room

but whats funny is we have a local chicken farm on the other side of the highway

forgot to mention about the pesticides, I might be able to have them skip the backyard and the coop area. I'll only let the chickens out if i'm around because we have lots of cats here.
