What is the yellow thing in your bater? It looks like you have the little giant bater. I had to take my chicks out of my bater early cause I was afraid that the chick was going to burn its head on the heating device on the top. Do you have that concern?

Julie...yes, they're laying some dark eggs since they started up again. I'm trying to hatch all of them that I can...hopefully I'll get more pullets than roos this hatch. Last couple of hatches have been way more roos than pullets.

One of the Marans has hatched....it's a different color than normal...I'll be curious to see how it looks when it's dry.

Right now I've only got two hens laying. Last winter I lost all but two of my marans hens to a predator. I've been hatching their eggs, so I've got a few pullets coming up, but since last spring I've hatched way more roos than pullets. I've never sold eggs for hatching. Don't know if I'm brave enough or not to start!! I'm hoping the daughters will lay as dark of egg as their mothers. I only put the darkest in the incubator.
