Finally started breaking ground at the new place

We are about halfway done, but my arms and shoulders couldn't take my more last night

Spent about 4 hours busting sod, raking and repeating. I am hoping I can get one more good day without rain to finish up.

So excited about planting soon!!! Any recommendations for greens? Wanting to grow more than lettuce, kale, spinach and mustard.. So any suggestions would be appreciated!!

Try some Swiss Chard? Bright Lights variety is very pretty! Poc Choi too! YUM!!!

Bok Choi and Chard. Good choices.

You can look at mesclun to add some variety to your lettuce salads.

Have you heard of New Zealand Spinach? It is not spinach and definitely needs cooking before you eat it. It is pretty much a weed and will grow real well in hot dry conditions, like August around here. Insects pretty much leave it alone. It is a vine and will spread out.

I'm not going to say it has a tremendous taste, but for those hot days in the heat of summer when nothing else you can use for greens grow or the bugs eat it the stuff up (chard and kale) that will grow, it is a good change of pace. I plan to plant some in another 6 weeks or so.

It is something a little different.

Last year I planted a six-pack of Napa cabbage accidentally; it was mislabeled. Turned out that it grew beautifully and was not bothered by any kind of pest around here. Of course, now that I want it, can't find any to plant.
