I got a pair of highflyers (not sure about what type) a few months ago, and after I think three batches of infertile eggs their is one that is fertile:celebrate. I'm very excited that they are going to finally have a baby but I don't know if they are good parents as I've had pigeons in the past which haven't been the best with feeding and taking care of there babies. Anyways I'll keep you guys updated :thumbsup

Thats awesome news :wee

Highflyers are normally utility breeds if their true types and thus are normally exceptional parents. Much like homers, tipplers, tumblers and rollers.

If the hen is laying eggs then the problem is probably with the male, however due to them being new to you if you keep them with other pigeons the already established males were probably just stopping them from mating too much. Good luck with the little one.

They're in there own section of the loft with the fly-in pigeon who I think is a hen. They had there first batch when it was just them in the section, so I have no idea why none were fertile.

Here’s a photo of the pair. The male is the blue checker and the female is the blue bar.

Update:
The egg has a pip and the squab should be out by tomorrow morning. I hope it survives and gets well fed when it’s out as I’ve just moved some of my new birds in with them and they are still getting used to the new birds.

Update:
I’m very annoyed as they have abandoned the egg and it is stone cold, it’s dead. I always make bad decisions which irritates me, I shouldn’t have moved in the new birds :barnie

Either way I hope they breed again in a few weeks but I feel like they won’t. I will update this thread again when any of my Serbian highflyers or Birmingham Rollers have fertile eggs, either way thanks for being here :thumbsup

We have all made decisions that went bad. As long as I am alive you will never have a monopoly on stupidity. I have made that same mistake and worse if it is of any consolation. You are best to add one bird at a time in that situation over a number of days. Even then the result can be the same.

In a perfect world they could have a new clutch in as early as ten days. With the turmoil caused by the introduction of the new birds I some how doubt it.
A new pecking order has to be established and certain areas of the loft claimed as each bird's own.
When you see your pair(s) copulate things have been sorted out. Then you can expect eggs in about 10 days+-.

Update:
The Serbian highflyer hen laid an egg yesterday.

Also I'm trying to breed more fantails using my original fantail hen (C), and my crossbreed pair male (B). I know that my white cross bred pigeon isn't a fantail but he has the kind of tail so hopefully it will become more dominant in the young due to the mum being a fantail.

I'll keep this updated

Update:
The Serbian highflyer pair are sitting on 2 fertile eggs, also another Serbian highflyer pair are on 2 eggs. And my Birmingham rollers and 'fantail' pair are on 2 eggs.

Also yesterday I finally got some more fantails, I've been trying to get some for ages. The ones I got are whites and they are hopefully two pairs. They are in quarantine at the moment and should only be in there for 2 weeks then in the loft for 2 weeks or less.

I'll keep this updated
