Finally!

Sometimes hatcheries have hatches that just don't work out. So they will substitute with another breed of chick. Even the pros have hatching issues. :)

Enjoy your new babies!

A bad hatch could mean some of the chicks were stillborn, or some hadn't fully developed.

It was nice that they substituted the kind you really wanted. Good luck with your new birds.

So my chicks arrived today (I actually ordered 4 EEs instead of 3, I guess I forgot). One of my EEs was crushed by the others in transit. I was surprised to not find a heat pack with them...

Of the remaining 6 chicks, 2 of them are showing signs of sickness.

Another EE would drink fine when I dipped her beak. The problem is she continually pulls her head all the way back until she falls over. I can stand her up, but she immediately repeats it. After the third time I helped her get a drink, she coughed up what appeared to be phlegm. Not a lot, but enough that it was noticeable.

My blue andalusian crouches down like she's asleep. She drank the first time I wet her beak, but has not since. She doesn't open her eyes at all.

The others are as active as I expected. I have a brown chick, I'm guessing that's my RIR. There's another 'calico', which I am sure is another EE. The GCM is pretty obvious. The last chick should be an EE, but she's all yellow. I know they come all colors but I thought they were always multi-colored.

I will post pics a little bit later. Thanks for any input.

The two struggling only lasted a few hours, sadly. I will work out next steps for that tomorrow.

The remaining are doing really well; drinking, eating, chirping and as the picture shows, pooping. I swapped the newspaper for paper towels just a bit ago.
